Visual Arts News

Kia ora e te whaanau (Hello families)
Over the past two weeks, we have been diving back into the world of visual art, where colors, shapes, and imagination come to life. Whether we are painting, drawing, or crafting, every stroke and splash tells a story - their story! To keep all those ideas flowing, we have been experimenting with new techniques, and most of all, have fun making unique pieces of art!
Grade Prep
Our preps have been learning how to bring shapes to life using just paper, scissors, and glue. From cutting out spooky spider bodies to making bouncy zigzags and folded shapes, we’re turning simple materials into amazing 3D art.
Grade 1
Taking inspiration from the stunning artwork of Bronwyn Bancroft and exploring the beauty of Aboriginal art! The grade 1’s are using warm or cool colors, to paint meaningful tree and family scenes, then bring them to life with dots, lines, and patterns inspired by Bancroft’s unique style.
Grade 2
Learning how to draw a chomping good crocodile using lines and shapes. The grade 2 students have followed step-by-step instructions, to create sharp teeth, scaly skin, and a big crocodile grin with careful, controlled lines. Then comes the fun part—blended rainbow colors to make their crocs extra eye-catching.
Grade 3
The grade 3’s are exploring visual conventions and discovering the magic of positive and negative space. They’ve been learning how to use space creatively to make their artwork stand out. Diving into watercolor painting to create a stunning negative space background. Next week, grade 3 will be working on a cityscape foreground to add on top.
Grade 4
Stepping into the world of bold colors and shapes as we explore positive and negative space through the inspiring artwork of Wassily Kandinsky! The grade 4’s have created eye-catching patterns with circles, experiment with cutting shapes, and play with space to make our designs pop.
Grade 5
Grade 5’s are exploring how to create the illusion of light in our observational drawings. By carefully drawing what they see, using shades and tints, and experimenting with color, bringing depth and dimension to their artwork.
Grade 6
Grade 6 have been using collage and shapes to design a unique cityscape. By choosing a color scheme, cutting even strips, and piecing together buildings and towers inspired by famous artists. With every cut and layer, their city scenes will come to life—one shape at a time!
