Student Excellence Program

Unlocking Magic - Card Shuffling: On Friday, 28th February, selected grade 3 students participated in the Unlocking Magic – Card Shuffling event as part of the Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series (VCES). This exciting session blended mathematics, strategy, and sleight of hand, giving students a behind-the-scenes look at the fascinating world of card magic.

Throughout the session, students worked with different suits from a deck of cards, mastering various shuffling techniques and exploring the mathematical principles behind card manipulation. They also learned how to apply these skills to perform impressive card tricks, using precision and deception to amaze their audience.

This hands-on experience not only strengthened problem-solving and fine motor skills but also encouraged students to think critically about patterns and probability—all while having a fantastic time!

Victorian High Ability Program (VHAP): We are now halfway through the Victorian High Ability Program (VHAP) for English and Mathematics for Term 1, and our students have been thriving in this exciting and challenging learning experience!

In English, students have been exploring advanced literary analysis, looking at how authors use language to create mood and meaning. They have been developing their critical thinking skills by examining themes, perspectives, and creative writing techniques.

In Mathematics, students have been tackling complex problem-solving challenges, including algebraic reasoning, number patterns, and logic puzzles. They are learning to think strategically and apply mathematical concepts in new and exciting ways.

It’s been fantastic to see our students engaging with like-minded peers from across Victoria, building their confidence and expanding their skills. With a few more weeks to go, we can’t wait to see their continued growth!

Keep up the great work, VHAP students!
