Religious Education & Pastoral Care

Mrs Trish Mitchell

Assistant Principal & Religious Education Coordinator

St Joseph,

You were a kind and loving guardian to Jesus,

a faithful protector and guide.

Watch over our school, our teachers,

our families, and our friends.

Help us to work hard, be kind, and always

do what is right.

Teach us to trust in God as you did,

and to care for others with a generous heart.

St Joseph, pray for us!

Amen.

Weekly Mass & Classroom visits

With Fr Sabu's return, we begin our weekly mass on a Wednesday where the primary stages rotate and attend whilst the Infants will have Fr Sabu visiting on a Tuesday during their Religious Education lessons.

Shrove Tuesday

A big thank you to Mrs Dewhurst, Mrs Westhorpe and our wonderful Stage 3 volunteers who helped with the cooking and serving! As we enjoyed the delicious pancakes, we also remember that this is a time to think about how we can be kinder, pray more, and grow closer to God.

Ash Wednesday

Our school community came together in our church to celebrate Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of Lent. It was a beautiful and reflective time as we received the ashes on our foreheads, reminding us to turn our hearts to God and live with kindness, forgiveness, and love. May this Lenten journey bring us all peace and blessings as we walk together in faith.

St Patrick's & St Joseph's Day

Our school community will celebrate St Patrick’s & St Joseph's Day on Thursday, 20th March, honouring the patron saints our school and parish. Some of our Stage 3 Joey's Group will be selling yummy treats at Recess to raise money for CARITAS. We ask students make a gold coin donation on the day and can purchase green jelly ($2), mint ice-cream cups ($2) and green cordial (50c). Our St Patrick's Colouring Competition entries are due on Friday, 4th April ready for judging!

Easter Egg Guessing Competition

Once again we are running an Easter Egg Guessing Competition, with guesses on sale each day at second break at school. Cost is 50c per guess. All money raised will be donated to Caritas.

Project Compassion

Project Compassion Boxes

Each family would have received a small Project Compassion box to keep in their home during Lent. The theme of Project Compassion 2025 is ‘Unite Against Poverty’ and reminds us that the good that we do today will extend and impact the lives of generations to come. It invites us to make the world a better place by working together now and finding long-term solutions to global issues.

We are particularly encouraged during Lent to give greater attention those who might be in need. One way we are able to do this as a Catholic Community is by supporting Project Compassion run by CARITAS Australia and over the next forty days of Lent we should be looking to make monetary contributions (big or small) to these boxes. We ask that families send them back into school in Week 11 of this term.

We are aware of many local families doing it tough given the current circumstances so prayers for those in need and random acts of kindness that don't cost money can be just as good as a monetary contribution!

Year of Jubilee

2025 is a Jubilee Year in the Catholic Church.

A Jubilee Year is traditionally proclaimed by the Universal Church every 25 years. It is a particular year set aside to encourage the faithful to embark on pilgrimages, to repent of their sins and forgive the sins of others, and to renew a focus on spiritual life.

The theme is Pilgrims of Hope. Pope Francis has invited Catholics to renew our hope and discover a vision that can "restore access to the fruits of the earth to everyone". We are also invited to rediscover a spirituality of God's creation in which we understand ourselves as "pilgrims on the earth" rather than masters of the world.

You will see this logo quite a bit this year...

The logo symbolises unity and fraternity among all of humanity, with four stylised figures from different corners of the earth embracing each other. The leading figure holds a cross, representing faith and hope. The rough waves beneath the figures symbolise life's challenges, emphasising the need for hope in difficult times. The elongated lower part of the cross forms an anchor, a well-known symbol of hope. This image depicts the pilgrimage as a communal journey towards the cross, which reaches out dynamically to offer presence and hope.
