Lightning Premiership News

Held on Friday the 7th of March, this year's summer lightning premiership was great fun for the year 5’s and 6’s.

This term, grade 5 and 6 students had the opportunity to choose 1 of the 4 wonderful summer sports that Carnegie had to offer. These 4 sports included softball, which was played at Princess Park and coached by Liana Macklin and Claire Washington. Cricket, which was also played at Princess Park and was coached by Mathew Lello and Angus McCracken. Basketball, which was played at Waverly Basketball Stadium and coached by Joel Pollard, Paul Hodges, Andrew Jordan and Nick Karasavidi. Volleystars, which was played at Lloyd Street and Carnegie Primary schools and was coached by Amy Travers, Amanda Tebb and Candice Hall.

Throughout the day, Carnegie students participated in a friendly but competitive way, cheering one another on and having an overall fun time. Students enjoyed trying new sports and playing them with different people, doing all this while showing amazing sportsmanship not only to the umpires, but to opponents as well.

Out of the 12 teams from Carnegie that participated in the 4 sports, only 2 teams eligible to go to division (Basketball gold girls and boys) won their league, therefore making it to the Hoop-Time division competition. Good luck to these 2 teams, we look forward to hearing how you go.

Now it's time to hear from some students about the day:

I enjoyed how we had fun and played as a team. We also won our competition which was very exciting.
