Our focus text continues to be We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen. We revisited the story together, joining in with the repeated phrases and actions. Repeated reading strengthens comprehension, builds confidence, and helps children recognise patterns in language. Through movement and retelling, students continue to develop sequencing skills and expressive oral language.

 

We began our day with our Good Morning song, greeting one another and building a strong sense of belonging. During our morning routine, we updated the calendar and discussed the day of the week, the month, and counted how many days are in a month. These daily conversations support early numeracy skills, time awareness, and oral language development.

 

For Mathematics this week, we brought our learning to life by making chocolate

chip cookies topped with tiny teddy biscuits. The children were actively involved in measuring ingredients, stirring the mixture, and rolling out the dough. Cooking experiences provide rich opportunities to develop early numeracy skills such as measuring, counting, comparing quantities, and following sequential steps. Students carefully counted out the tiny teddies to place on top of each cookie (and yes... we may have sampled a few along the way!). Counting in meaningful, hands-on contexts strengthens one-to-one correspondence and number confidence in a fun and engaging way. The children watched closely as the biscuits went into the oven and observed the changes that occurred during baking. This sparked wonderful conversations about sequencing, change, and patience.
