It has been a wonderful and highly positive start to the 2026 school year. Across the college, students have returned with enthusiasm, focus, and a strong commitment to their learning, setting an excellent tone for the year ahead.

We have been particularly impressed with our Year 9 students as they transition from junior school into middle school. This is an important step in their learning journey, and it has been fantastic to see how quickly they have embraced new expectations, routines, and opportunities. Students have settled in well, demonstrating growing independence and engagement in their classes.

The introduction of new elective subjects has also been a highlight of the start of the year. Students are already exploring areas of personal interest and passion, and it has been pleasing to see such positive feedback and engagement across a wide range of learning areas. These opportunities allow students to develop new skills while taking greater ownership of their learning pathways.

Our Year 10 students have also begun their pre-VCE year with a strong and purposeful approach. Through the My Future, My Pathway (MFMP) program, students are already engaging in meaningful conversations about their future aspirations, senior school pathways, and career goals. All students have begun organising work experience placements, demonstrating initiative and a growing readiness for the transition into senior school.

Support can be arranged for students with IEPs if the student regularly uses similar support for classroom assessment tasks. Exemptions may be granted to students with significant IEP requirements, and to students who have been learning English for less than one year.  If your child is eligible for support due to disability or exemption, you will be contacted by our EAL team or Integration team prior to the tests as parental consent is required before any support due to disability or exemption is granted.

Students may be withdrawn from NAPLAN by their parents or carers. This is a matter for consideration by parents and carers in consultation with the Principal. If, after consultation, you decide to withdraw your child, you must sign a Student Withdrawal form. These forms are generated for each student individually and can be requested through the front office. Please email mordialloc.co@education.vic.gov.au

Time has been allocated during class to support students in downloading the Locked Down Browser and ensuring it is working correctly. However, if possible, we ask that you please check with your child at home to confirm that the browser has been successfully downloaded.

HERE is more information on how to download the Locked Down Browser. Your child’s device should display this logo/icon on their desktop:

Work Experience Year 10

Our Year 10 students should now be well underway with planning for their upcoming Work Experience program. Work Experience will take place in Term 2, Week 3 — Monday 4 May to Friday 8 May 2026, and participation is compulsory for all Year 10 students.

Work Experience is an important milestone in the Year 10 program, providing students with a valuable opportunity to step outside the classroom and gain real-world insight into the world of work. It allows students to explore potential career pathways or trades, and importantly, to try experiences beyond traditional or familiar roles.

Throughout the week, students will have the chance to develop new skills in authentic workplace environments while building confidence, independence, and communication skills. For many students, this experience plays a key role in helping them make informed decisions about future subject selections and senior school pathways.

Work Experience also helps students better understand what type of work environment suits them, while providing practical experience that can support future part-time or full-time employment opportunities. Importantly, it is also a strong addition to a student’s resume as they begin preparing for life beyond school.

We encourage families to support students in securing placements as soon as possible and to begin conversations about areas of interest and potential career pathways.

Work Experience is due this term. If you need help securing a placement, speak to your child’s MFMP Teacher

On the Ropes – Educational Theatre Performance

Students recently participated in On the Ropes, a powerful educational theatre production performed by actors from the Red Stitch production company. Designed to help young people better understand relationships, consent, and their legal rights, the performance used an engaging and relatable storyline following two teenagers navigating real-life challenges. The production successfully combined storytelling with practical legal education, supporting important conversations around respectful relationships, social pressures, and available support, while reinforcing key wellbeing messages for our students.
