FROM THE TEAM

In Week 3, students continued working on positive learning habits and classroom routines. We talked about using a growth mindset, setting SMART goals, and understanding expected and unexpected behaviours. Students also practised lining up quietly when the bell goes, keeping our classroom clean and tidy, and following bookwork expectations so everyone can learn comfortably. 

In class learning, students explored the meaning of the prefix therm and began planning and writing their persuasive innovations using tools they have learned. In Maths, we focused on solving addition and subtraction problems using the part–part–whole model and practised solving worded problems. It has been a productive week with students building confidence and settling well into their learning.

• Develop questions using factual videos to introduce a topic and build background knowledge. 
• Use research skills such as shortcuts, keywords and appropriate websites to find information. 
• Write our innovation using appropriate tools. 
• Explain what relevant vocabulary means in different contexts. 
• Tune in to a new mentor text to support our learning. 
• Complete a Frayer model to deepen understanding of vocabulary. 
• Summarise ideas and information to identify the main idea. 
• Research and understand the significance of a gold licence. 
• Select appropriate strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems. 
• Use estimation to check the reasonableness of answers. 
• Add and subtract fractions with related denominators.
