Message from the Deputy Principal

The year has begun with great energy and optimism, marked by a wonderful start filled with a range of special signature events that have brought our community together. From the Year 10 and Year 12 Information Evenings, Junior School Meet and Greet Afternoon, Year 12 Formal, to the warm welcome extended at the P&F Welcome Evening and the celebration of our rich history on Foundation Day, these occasions have set a positive tone for the year ahead. Each event has reflected the strong sense of connection, pride and shared purpose that defines our College community as we embark on another year of learning and growth.
A new year brings with it excitement and the promise of fresh opportunities. It is a time to embrace new challenges, pursue new milestones and aspire to even greater heights.
As we begin 2026, we invite families to partner with us in encouraging students to reflect on the milestones they wish to achieve this year. What goals will they set, and how will they work towards achieving them? Beginning the year with clear goals and a strong sense of purpose provides direction and motivation, both within and beyond the classroom.
However, setting goals alone is not enough. Achieving them requires commitment, perseverance and hard work. Whether this effort is applied to academic learning, sporting pursuits, the arts, or personal development, students must be prepared to invest time, energy and focus to realise their aspirations. Encouragement and support at home also play a vital role in strengthening and reinforcing these values.
An important part of goal achievement is learning how to respond to challenges and setbacks. Inevitably, students will encounter obstacles, a result they are disappointed with, a competition outcome that did not go as hoped, or a performance that fell short of expectations. In these moments, how they respond matters. Reflection, seeking feedback, viewing obstacles as opportunities for learning and considering alternative approaches are essential skills that help students grow and improve.
Resilience is the ability to respond positively to challenges, learn from mistakes, and use those experiences as stepping stones for future success. At Clayfield College, we are committed to supporting every student to develop resilience and a growth mindset; understanding that while they may not yet be where they want to be, with persistence, effort, and the right support, progress and success are achievable.
Most importantly, our challenge to every student this year is to strive for personal excellence, to work towards becoming the best version of themselves.
Growth doesn’t come from playing it safe. We want our students to challenge themselves, to aim high and dream big. We want them to set ambitious goals, take pride in their achievements, and have the passion, drive and courage to realise their goals. We encourage our students to have the confidence that they can achieve what may initially seem unachievable, knowing that they are supported by a strong community of dedicated educators and mentors guiding and cheering them on their journey.
So, as we embark on our 2026 journey, my message to our students is:
“Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you will land among the stars.”
Norman Vincent Peale.
