Wellbeing

What a fantastic start to the year we have had in Wellbeing! I’ve loved spending time in all classrooms and seeing students working collaboratively to establish their class essential agreements, build positive relationships with one another, and connect with their teachers. There has been a strong focus on creating safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environments across the school.

In Grade 1, students have been developing their emotional literacy through the Kimochi’s program. They have been getting to know Bug and exploring the different emotions he experiences. Students are learning how to name their feelings and begin to understand that all emotions are okay, while also learning positive ways to manage them.

In Grade 2, students have been busy creating wonderful posters that reflect our school values. These posters show practical and meaningful ways students can demonstrate these values every day at Highton Primary School, both in the classroom and around the school grounds.

In the Grade 3/4 program, students have been introduced to The Resilience Project. They have begun identifying and discussing the wide range of emotions we all experience, and how understanding our emotions helps build resilience, empathy, and positive wellbeing.

In the Grade 5/6 program, students have begun their lessons through The Resilience Project, focussing first on identifying and labelling emotions as well as employing the T.H.I.N.K strategy as a part of mindful speech, helping to focus on the possible impacts of the words they choose when speaking to others.

For families who would like to learn more about The Resilience Project and what students will be focusing on throughout the year, please see the short parent information video linked below:👉https://vimeo.com/1124702592/bf8fa700fd?ts=15000&share=copy

I’m really looking forward to continuing this important wellbeing learning with students across the year.
