Celebrating the Lunar New Year
We would like to extend our warmest wishes to all our families who have been celebrating the Lunar New Year! This vibrant festival is a cherished time for families to come together, share traditional meals, and welcome a fresh start filled with prosperity. We especially acknowledge our families from Vietnam, who celebrate this season as Tết, and our families celebrating Chinese New Year. As we enter the Year of the Horse, a year associated with energy, independence, and bright futures, we celebrate the rich cultural traditions that our diverse families bring to our school. To everyone celebrating, we wish you a year ahead filled with health and happiness.

Student Leadership Shines with Friday Fun Day & SRC Initiatives!
What a fantastic lunchtime we had today! Our 2026 Grade 6 student leaders kicked things off with a bang, bringing smiles and laughter to the whole school for our first Friday Fun Day of the year. This beloved HPS tradition is officially back in action, with our new leadership team already busy organizing engaging games and activities. We’re thrilled to confirm that Friday Fun Day will remain a staple of our school fortnight, happening every other week!
Today we also had our very first school assembly for the year. Assemblies are an important time for students to come together celebrate achievements and build community. We have also introduced Grade Level assemblies on the weeks we do not have school assemblies for our students to continue to build connection and celebrate.
Strengthening Our Connections
Today marked a wonderful milestone as we gathered for our first whole-school assembly of the year, made even more special as the debut leadership event for our 2026 School Captains: Lila Gunn, Harry Van Kalken, Sienna Venuto, and Angus Rodwell. These gatherings are an important part of school life, providing a vital space for our students to unite, celebrate collective achievements, and reinforce our shared values. Beyond our formal recognitions, assemblies are also a stage to showcase our Performing Arts program, giving students the opportunity to share their creative talents with the entire community. To further deepen this sense of belonging, we have also introduced Grade Level Assemblies on the weeks we do not have a school assembly. This initiative ensures that even when the whole school isn’t together, our students have a dedicated space to build closer peer connections and celebrate the unique successes happening within their own year levels.
National Apology Day
A Message of Reflection and Reconciliation
Today, our school community pauses to observe the Anniversary of the National Apology to the Australia’s Indigenous Peoples. On this day in 2008, the Australian Parliament formally apologized to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples for the past laws and policies that forcibly removed children from their families, cultures, and country. At our school, we believe that understanding our history is a vital part of growing together. Today is a time for us to reflect on the enduring strength of Stolen Generations survivors and their descendants, and to reaffirm our collective commitment to a future built on healing, respect, and reconciliation.
