"Reading is Magic"
Book Week 2024
"The library is not just full of books, but also opportunities."
Abbey 2016
Our library window has the symbolism of the tree of knowledge. However, knowledge is not the only reason we have a library or the purpose of our library.
Over the coming weeks, this segment will feature words from the leaves on our library tree.
Our last word this week from the library tree is THINK
Our library space encourages students to think about their world, about themselves and about their learning.
Thankyou to the Oxley Local Area Command for presenting the school with these books as a token of gratitude for the school choir commencing their ceremony with the National Anthem.
431,383 students across NSW took part in the PRC this year, with a record 323,328 students completing the Challenge.
Students read a combined total of 9,115,211 books - with this year's most read book being Bowerbird Blues by Aura Parker. The 2024 National Simultaneous Storytime book was read around the country on 22 May as part of ALIA's goal to promote the value of reading and literacy - and the students of NSW certainly did their part, with 97,609 students adding this to their 2024 reading records!
Ongoing participation in the NSW PRC has increased, with the highest number of Gold and Platinum certificates and second highest number of PRC Medals in the Challenge's history being awarded this year.
The certificates have arrived and are being steadily rolled out to the students over the next few days.
Today a select group of students who have completed the Challenge over 4 years will have received a GOLD certificate to be presented to them by Mr Clery.
Next week Yr 6 students who have completed the Challenge for 7 years will be presented their Platinum certificates by Mr Clery.
Certificate recipient photos next week.
More conference news next week.

"The strongest positive impact on reading engagement and learning gains comes from student self-selection of reading materials. When reading materials are selected for students the links to engagement and learning gain decline significantly."
How Reading Motivation and Engagement Enable Reading Achievement: Policy Implications, Ana Taboada Barber and Susan Lutz Klauda
When students visit the library a huge emphasis is placed on the

Please note a LIBRARY BAG is the first item on your child's equipment list for this year.
Thank you for ensuring your child has a library bag. I have some spares and will issue these to students next week who have not yet presented with a bag.
LIBRARY BAGS MATTER... Not just some of the time but all of the time.
No food or drink on my books.
Food and drink are for the chooks.
Library bags keep ‘em clean.
Books are cool don’t treat ‘em mean.
Bring your bag every time.
Fill it up and get in line.
Have it scanned and scoot on out.
LIBRARY BAGS
We all shout.
