YEAR 6

Canberra Excursion

Last Monday our Year 6 students along with some brave teachers and parents embarked on an exciting excursion to Canberra. Each day was absolutely packed with educational and fun activities including a visit to Questacon where we were particularly fascinated by the Earthquake Simulator and the giant slide. The Australian War Memorial’s exhibits brought history to life, allowing us to learn more about Australia’s involvement in global conflicts. Other experiences included Parliament House, the Australian Institute of Sport, the High Court of Australia, King Pin Bowling and Arcade, and Cockington Green where we marvelled at the beautifully crafted miniature buildings and gardens from around the world. Overall, the excursion to Canberra was an unforgettable experience, combining learning with adventure. We returned home with new knowledge and lasting memories of the fantastic places we visited.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion, the Australian Government has contributed funding to our school in the amount of $45 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards these costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion and this rebate was already factored into the cost of the excursion for parents.
