Roald Dahl Mini Unit

Students enjoyed being ‘in a world of pure imagination’ with their colourful and quirky masterpieces inspired by various Roald Dahl books.

  • Preps made potions inspired by George’s Marvellous Medicine
  • Year 1/2 students designed giant houses for The B.F.G.
  • Year 3/4 students completed witch portraits inspired by The Witches book
  • Year 5/6 students worked hard to develop a new product inspired by various Wonka products in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Remembrance Day

Students completed some reflective and thoughtful pieces of work for Remembrance Day and learnt more about the significance of the poppy through listening to The Poppy Story and Lest We Forget by Kerry Brown. Various year levels explored artist Georgia O’Keeffe’s giant poppies, before having a go at their own using watercolour.

Chalk Fest!

This week, students across from various year levels enjoyed chalk art. We looked at the unique works of street artist David Zinn. We will also revisit a favourite Book Week book called ‘The Concrete Garden’ by Bob Graham.

Sgraffito

Sgraffito is an artistic or decorative technique of scratching through a coating on a hard surface to reveal parts of another underlying coating which is in a contrasting colour. Sgraffito derives from an Italian word meaning “to scratch.” Students have been experimenting with this technique using paint, paint slicks and various tools to reveal the colour. It has proven to be an engaging way of exploring colour, line, shape and texture.

Year 6 Graduation Art

To help kick-start the revamp to the quiet area near the staff room, year 6 students will be painting and decorating a wide variety of pots. These will be used to pot a variety of plants. I would love any donations of terracotta or ceramic pots. If you have any horticultural/gardening expertise, I would love to hear from you with plant suggestions.

Artwork completed this year will be sent home in the coming weeks.
