Wominjeka to OSHC

Coordinator: Alexis Simmonds and Assistant Coordinator: Sarah Emerson

We acknowledge the first peoples of the Kulin Nation, their Dreaming of the past, present and future. We pay our respect for their land by looking after the land we learn and play on.

Spooky celebrations, lots of active games and imaginative play and crafty kiddies pretty much sums up the last couple weeks at OSHC. We got in to the spirit of Halloween with a special themed menu of band aids (Saladas with cream cheese & sweet chilli sauce), white choc pretzel ghosts and monster cupcakes. Students painted spooky cut outs and plaster moulds, made fluffy ghosts to hang from the ceiling and made some fun ghost poppers using balloons, cups and pom poms.

The tennis nets have been out and many children have been working on their hand eye coordination rallying with one another. Sam has been running big group games of cricket in the oval when the weather has been nice, popular with all ages. Some very close matches and high levels of both fielding and batting have been on display.

Our developmental play corner with our home corner, play office and dollhouse has been turned into a doctor’s office, restaurant, vet hospital and burger shop. This corner lets students let their imagination run wild and encourages play with students from all grades.

As the temperature peaked, Wet head was brought down off the shelf to cool students down and the Book Nook was fuller than normal with children needing an escape from the heat outside.

Some new recipes were tried for afternoon tea with good reviews and students were treated to an egg and bacon breakfast as a brekkie special alongside our usual spread. Pancake Friday continues to be a draw card for Friday Before Care as it always has.

Countdown is on until the summer holidays but don’t think we’ll be slowing down its all systems go here until the last day of term.

Have a great weekend.
