Remembrance Day Assembly
We held a special Remembrance Day Assembly on Monday.
Lilly Cascun, a talented musician and ex student, returned to play The Last Post and The Rouse. Year 6 students opened the assembly with some lovely words, followed by a reading of "In Flanders Field" and the Ode.
Students from the advanced Strings program accompanied the school body singing the National Anthem and performed two other pieces.
Children do not have a fully developed sense of road safety
We implore families to avoid making U-turns and using neighbours driveways to beat the traffic during drop off and pick up times. All the streets bordering our school are dead-ends. Lowe Street, particularly is extremely tight and not suitable for drivers to turn at the bottom. With children in close proximity, the simple act of reversing and turning in these streets during pick up and drop off times is fraught with danger. Aisla Grove does have a turning circle towards the end of the street and is much safer for pedestrians providing drivers do the right thing.
Please drive respectfully and keep in mind that children do not have a fully developed sense of road safety. It is much safer to plan ahead for an extra 5 or 10 mins and park in one of the surrounding car parks.
Drop Off duty Of Care
REMINDER - Children must not be dropped off at school before 8.45am unless they are attending a school sanctioned program. Staff are not on duty before 8.45am. Siblings of children attending chess or any other before school program cannot be left unsupervised. Parents of children left unattended will be required to pick them up.
All Victorian Government Schools undertake a comprehensive school review every 4 years to inform the directions of the school’s 4 - year School Strategic Plan (SSP).
NAPLAN assessments and the calculation of results in the Attitudes to School Survey (AToSS), School Staff Survey (SSS) and Parent, Caregiver and Guardian Opinion Survey (PCGOS) have implications for future target and goal setting.
There are 2 components of a school review:
In Term 1 of 2025 Ivanhoe Primary School enters a period of review. As part of the PRSE key stakeholders, comprising students, parents / carers, staff and school council are provided with opportunities via forums and surveys to contribute.
As part of our School Strategic Plan Review, we are inviting parents/carers to identify highlights of Ivanhoe Primary School over the last 4 years (2021-2024).
The leadership team has brainstormed a list from which you can select up to five (5) highlights as well as there is a box at the bottom of the form to add what may have been overlooked. Please use the QR Code or link below to access the for
https://forms.office.com/r/Gnq2xyAEMF
School Council has developed their highlights as have the school staff and the Junior School Council. Each group see the school through a different lens so all feedback will be useful in the review process.
When the school review begins in early March there will be invitations to join forums and discussions to assist the school to develop its next School Strategic Plan.
As we approach the mid-point of term 4 the thoughts of our students inevitably turn to ‘what happens next year’?
For some this is a matter-of-fact process that barely raises a mention, for others it can be a more challenging time with the various uncertainties that come about.
Term 4 sees a structured approach to the transition process being implemented by our teaching staff. Your child may well have already shared news of taking part in activities across their whole year level or collaborating with students in another class on a project. As the weeks go by they will also be visiting their ‘buddy classes’ in both the year level above and below them, this allows your child to ask questions, visit the learning spaces and hear from the students in that year level about what they can expect.
Every student also has the opportunity to complete a ‘who I Work well with’ template. This gives your child the chance to share five other students from their year level who they think would be a go match for their 2025 classroom.
This information is included in the process of class creation to make sure that every student has at least one of their choices in their classroom. Teaching staff use a range of other information when generating these classes, including, academic and social profiles, gender, support requirements, incidents of any student conflict, classroom observation of learning habits and the overall make up of a classroom to support all the learners within it.
Our transition process will culminate with a ‘meet the teacher’ day on December 9th. This is the day that statewide transition occurs so our current grad 6 students will be visiting their high school, and we will be welcoming our 2025 foundation cohort. All students will spend a block of time with their 2025 class and teacher, this time will be spent focusing upon building relationships, collaborative activities and preparing for the new school year.
The process that we have in place is both robust and supportive of our student needs and we look forward to both the challenge and excitement of the time ahead.

Dear Families and Students who were involved in the Australian Maths Competition this year. The certificates have finally arrived, and we will be celebrating student achievements by handing out certificates at next Monday’s assembly, Monday 18th November.
We encourage you to come and support the students by recognising their incredible achievements.
Last Saturday's Working Bee was the last for 2024. It was a very small turnout and we struggled to get all the tasks completed. However, families and children persevered,
worked really hard and accomplished a great deal.

Huge thanks to the parent who came back on the Sunday and put in another four hours on the bobcat and spade to level the ground for relocated bike racks and a shed for the Out of School Hours Care Program.

The PFA would love your support for its final fundraising initiative of the year. It's a juicy one! An envelope will be sent home with the eldest child in each family for you to place your order.
For more information, head over to the PFA page.
Thank you for your support, the PFA.
Last week the Foundation students' teddy bears had a sleepover at school. Students made little beds for their teddy bears so that they would be comfy overnight.
I don't think there was much sleeping. It looks like the teddies and toys got up to some mischief.
While Class Dojo is the window into the classroom, COMPASS is the portal for administration of events, school finance, parent payment and all the other stuff you really need to know to support your child through school.
We are currently working hard to finalise staff, teachers and classes for 2025. As soon as we are in a position to publish the final structure we will.
Thank you for your support.
