Year 6 Disco
Last Friday, our Year 6 students lit up the night with a dazzling neon-themed disco! The evening was filled with pumping music, energetic dancing, vibrant glow sticks and inflatable fun galore!
Our students had a great time dancing the night away! A huge thank you goes out to our incredible Year 6 parents, whose hard work and creativity made this unforgettable night possible.
Year 7 Night of the Notables
Nicola Devlin, Academic Dean of Humanities
Recently, we celebrated our Year 7 Night of the Notables, with this year’s theme focusing on Legacies of Ancient Greece and the enduring curiosity that has driven human progress across centuries.
We not only honoured the great thinkers, warriors and creators of Greek civilization, but also celebrated the excitement of inquiry learning and collaboration. Ancient Greece has left us a rich legacy of philosophies, stories and achievements that continue to inspire and challenge us today. Their love for knowledge, art and the pursuit of truth reflects the very values we hold dear at Kilvington.
We congratulate our Year 7 students on being part of this rich tradition. Through their research, creativity and teamwork, they connected with centuries of inquiry and wonder, bringing the legacies of Ancient Greece to life.
A big thank you to our parents for sharing in this journey. We hope the event filled you with joy, pride and a sense of connection to a world that is both ancient and wonderfully alive in our young historians here at Kilvington.
Year 8 Our Sustainable World
Louise Macfarlane, Academic Dean of Science
From 18 to 20 November, our Year 8 students participated in the Our Sustainable World initiative.
They took part in a variety of interactive activities over the three days, including:
- The HIVE Treasure Hunt: Discovering the sustainable features of the HIVE.
- Beekeeping and beeswax wraps: Learning about the importance of bees in our ecosystem and creating their own reusable beeswax wraps.
- Renewable energy exploration: Investigating solar, wind and hydro energy generation.
- Wind turbine experiment: Experimenting on the ideal number and length of blades on a wind turbine to maximise electric current.
- CERES climate incursion: Learning about sustainability, community and the environment.
- School sustainability project: Undertaking a project to make the School more sustainable.
This immersive experience not only deepened students’ understanding of sustainability, but also inspired them to think creatively about the role they can play in building a greener future.
Year 9 Global Studies
Mark Williams, Dean of Year 9 Impact Program
Year 9 Global Studies students recently investigated the inquiry question, 'Is the World Getting Better?'
Using the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) as their framework, our students explored areas of global need and progress, gaining insights into the challenges and achievements shaping our world today.
As part of their learning, the Year 9s authored children’s storybooks inspired by one of the SDGs. They also enjoyed sharing their learning with our Junior School students.
A great time was had by all!
Bionics Institute Girls in STEM
Louise Macfarlane, Academic Dean of Science
On 21 November, the Kilvington Girls in STEM team attended a celebration event at the NAB Auditorium, where they received certificates recognising their participation in the Bionics Institute Girls in STEM program.
Throughout the year, the students had the incredible opportunity to work alongside Professor Kate Hoy, a clinical neuropsychologist and Head of Cognitive Therapeutics at the Bionics Institute.
As part of their learning journey, they presented their findings on Alzheimer’s research to their VCE Biology class. Well done, girls!
Remembrance Day Service
On 11 November, our school community gathered to honour Remembrance Day, commemorating all Australians who have fallen in past wars and conflicts. Lest we forget.
