Principals Message

Liz O'Loughlin

We’re excited to announce an amazing opportunity for our students to shine in a nativity play during the Christmas Vigil Mass! This special event will take place at Mary MacKillop Catholic Regional College at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, 24 December 2024.

Madame Gatehouse has generously volunteered to coordinate practices, costumes, and all the creative details, and we’re looking for about 11 to 14 enthusiastic students to join in the fun.

Please take a moment to discuss this wonderful chance with your child. If they’re interested in being part of this festive celebration, reach out to me at principal@stlleongatha.catholic.edu.au or call 5662 2192.

Students who wish to participate should be available to attend the Christmas Vigil Mass. Let’s come together to make this holiday season truly special!

Bonjour

I’m excited to share some fantastic news about safe cycling at our school! We’re launching the Bike Ed program for all our Grades 3 to 6 students over the next couple of weeks, and it’s going to be an amazing experience! With the support of Victoria Police and their wonderful educators, we’re equipping our students with the essential knowledge and skills for safe riding.

Through this engaging program, our young riders will learn important road rules, safe biking behaviors, and practical riding skills that will help them navigate shared spaces confidently. Our Grade 3 and 4 students will focus on making smart decisions on bike paths and footpaths, tackling hazards, and planning safe journeys.

For our Grade 5 and 6 students, it’s time to level up! They’ll develop their confidence and independence while practicing how to navigate roads and intersections safely. We have some thrilling bike hikes planned—Grade 5 will ride the Rail Trail to Koonwarra, while Grade 6 will embark on an adventure to Outtrim. Both grades will also have the opportunity to showcase their skills at the Velodrome!

I am happy to report that we have a number of shared bikes available to our students for students who do not have their own. These bikes make cycling accessible to all, ensuring that every child can join in on the fun. A big shout-out to Morgan from Wheel Heat in Wonthaggi for keeping our school bikes in top shape!

I also want to extend my thanks to the wonderful parents, carers, and volunteers who support our young cyclists by supervising and cheering them on. Your involvement truly makes a difference!

Cycling has so many benefits: it promotes health and fitness, is cost-effective, helps reduce traffic congestion, and is great for the environment. We’re committed to helping our students ride safely, with confidence in a fun cycling environment.

Joyeuse balade à vélo!

Liz
