Around the Classrooms
Year 1/2W
This week, year 1/2W have been learning all about Advent.
Advent is a waiting time, a time to wait for the birth of Jesus. We have talked about times that we need to wait at school: - to talk to our teacher - wait for our friends to come outside - to buy a Super Dooper from the canteen - wait for Mum or Dad to pick us up.
however, Advent is a special event that we are waiting to celebrate with our family and friends.
We also reflected on the Advent Wreath that we will place on our prayer table.
The Advent wreath is a reminder of the hope and joy coming. The circular shape of the wreath symbolises God's never ending love for us. the evergreen leaves and branches represent the everlasting life found in Christ.
There are 4 candles - three purple and one pink.
Each week we will light a candle that represents HOPE, PEACE, JOY and LOVE.
Purple is the liturgical colour for Advent. We will place a purple cloth on our prayer table in the classroom. We will sing songs about Advent and say prayers together, as we wait to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
