Careers Corner
Last week we took the senior cohort of VCE students to the annual VCE & Careers Expo in Melbourne. This excursion is to assist our VCE students to shape their career pathways and explore the options for when they leave Bayside Christian College at the end of year 12.
There was a large selection of universities, tertiary institutions and colleges represented for students to visit. They could collect the course guides for 2025 and speak to the staff about general information. Other exhibitors include Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC), Australian Defence Force, Victoria Police, Ambulance Vic, Gap year options and Department of Education with their new VCE campaign “Many Talents, One VCE”.
Students were also able to attend 30-45 minute seminars on various topics relevant for VCE Students. This year’s choice of seminars in our time slot were:
- Exam Preparation: VCE Unit 3 & 4 English, Psychology, Health & Human, and Chemistry
- VTAC - Everything you need to know about applying for courses
- University of Melbourne - Study and student life
- Latrobe - Aspire Early entry programs
- JMC - Making a career in the creative industries
Student feedback was positive with the majority of students finding the Expo beneficial. Unfortunately, this year there wasn’t a free tote bag available at the entrance which meant students had to carry around the course guides they had collected. Despite this, the majority of students walked through the exhibitor stands stopping at any of interest with some attending relevant seminars.
