God Bless Our Mothers
After watching “The Passion of the Christ”, I was struck by the piercing eyes of Mary, the Mother of Jesus. The pain, anguish, compassion, suffering and deep love that came from just her eyes was unforgettable. Her eyes also gave comfort as Jesus walked His glorious path of love and sacrifice to Calvary.
The eyes of a mother possess a unique power to communicate volumes to their children. They convey messages of unconditional love, unwavering support, and steadfast belief. In moments of trial and triumph, they silently affirm, "I love you unconditionally," "I have faith in you," "I am by your side always," "You are capable," and "I forgive you." Yet, a mother's stern glare also serves as a potent reminder of accountability and discipline.
Thank you for your eyes, which speak love and goodness into your children. May the gaze you bestow upon them always reflect the boundless love and hope that God holds for each of them.
As Mother's Day approaches, I extend heartfelt wishes to all our beautiful mothers and those who embrace the role of motherhood. May God shower you with His richest blessings, and may you revel in the wonder of motherhood as you celebrate on Sunday.
God bless,
Mrs Danielle Lupi, Head of Primary
Mothers Day Stall
Prep-Year 6 students will be given the opportunity to visit the Mother's Day Stall in G-Block on Friday 10 May. Please send $5 in an envelope with your child's name and class on the front to give to their teacher for safe-keeping. The correct money in each envelope is greatly appreciated as change is limited. If your family decides not to purchase a gift from the stall, please let your child know to avoid disappointment on the day.
2025 Prep Readiness Session
On Thursday 2 May the parents’ of 2025 Preps met with Mrs Lupi and myself to discuss the best ways to start helping their child get ready for the transition to Prep. Approximately 14 families attended. We discussed the various aspects of readiness, recognising that it is not just a child’s chronological age that indicates they are ready for school, we need to consider emotional, social, physical, and academic readiness also.
Simple things such as regularly reading with your child and helping them recognise numbers in various places in their environment contributes to preparing them for school. These along with encouraging play dates with peers; turn taking in games; learning to compromise and building resilience, go a long way in supporting a child’s social and emotional readiness.
Bayside has an extensive transition program that aims to make the students feel comfortable and confident to start their new educational journey. Parents who would like to know more about ways to help their child prepare for Prep are welcome to email questions to donna.martin@baysidecc.vic.edu.au

Years 3/4 Egg Drop Challenge
On Thursday 2 May all students in Years 3/4 started using supplies to build armour and shields, to protect our precious eggs for the bi-annual Egg drop challenge. The 3/4 teachers were setting up all the eggquipment we would need for the eggsperiment.
Everyone except a few people made parachutes for their eggs and I think that was a pretty great idea! Those people that didn't create a parachute still made their eggstravagant creations and used ideas to keep their eggs safe! We had partners to work with which made it easier to take turns, we all got eggs from the chickens to protect.
The most fun part was when we would test our creations to see if the egg would break or not, and if it did we may or may not get to take our creation home and say goodbye to our slimy friend. Either way we would say goodbye to our eggs but it's still a plus if we don’t let them break. We dropped the eggs from the high platform on the green playground equipment and watched them free fall onto a special mat to help its landing. We all took turns to see what would happen to each creation, counting down 3, 2, 1 each time.
The experiment was eggstremely successful and I'm sure all the 3 ⁄ 4 students learnt something new, including how much greater teamwork is when you're in an actual team. It was certainly a fun project and even though it was a short masterpiece we can thank our teachers for all they have done for us. This was certainly a day to remember!
God bless the gentlemen and the ladies who have read this.

Primary Music
In our 50-minute Music classes each week, Bayside students are exploring the special part of God’s creation, which we call ‘Music’: how it works, why it sometimes makes us feel like dancing and other times makes us want to cry, and how we can contribute towards music for the benefit of us and others in our community.
In Prep Music, we are learning about the most important but most abstract musical concept: a ‘steady beat’. In almost all music, a ‘steady beat’ shows that the music is alive, just like our heartbeat shows that we are alive. We have been practising playing instruments and singing along with songs with a steady beat. The students enjoy fun games such as the ‘pancake’ game, where the better the teamwork from the class, the higher they can launch the beanbag into the air!
In Year 1/2 Music, we have been growing our understanding of rhythms, using the rhythm vocabulary of ‘ta’, ‘ti-ti’ and ‘za’, since “the name of the rhythm IS the rhythm” (eg ‘ti-ti’ has 2 equal-length syllables, so it’s the name of a rhythm which has just 2 equal sounds on a beat.) We have been practising working out the rhythms to our favourite songs and raps, even in story books such as ‘Each Peach Pear Plum’!
In our Year 3/4 Music class, we're diving into the world of rhythm, discovering how drummers can shape the style of music, infusing it with catchy, vibrant energy. Through exploring various rhythms, we're unravelling the intricacies of musical composition. We're honing our skills by practising rhythm ostinatos in different sections, synchronising our efforts to play multiple rhythm parts simultaneously. Amidst the lively cacophony, we're not only refining our musical abilities but also exercising our minds as we count beats and coordinate our movements.
In Year 5/6 Music, we have just started exploring a 90-year-old piece of music called ‘Peter and the Wolf’, written by Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev. It is a great example of how music (especially differences in tone and colour) can be used to represent different characters and ideas. We are practising how to discern with our ear which instruments we can hear, and how they contribute towards telling the story.
In addition to our regular lessons, students have fun engaging in instrumental lessons, Worship Band rehearsals, performances at Open Day and assemblies, Madagascar rehearsals and more!! Thank you all for your support, and apologies for all the songs that get stuck in the heads of your children!

Winter Sports
Winter Sports: Reflecting on the Action-Packed Last Two Fridays
Winter Sports kicked off with a bang, and it's time to reminisce about the thrilling action that unfolded on the field during the last two Friday mornings of Year 5/6 Winter Sports. Our young athletes demonstrated determination and grit, showcasing their skills and sportsmanship for all to see.
In the first week, our students braved the chilly morning air as they gathered on the field to face their soccer, football, and netball opponents. Despite the cold, spirits were high as they gave it their all. From nail-biting goals in soccer to impressive tackles in football and precise shots in netball, each game was filled with excitement and suspense. The best part? All teams secured wins, making us proud!
The following week brought another round of thrilling matches, this time against St. John’s. While we emerged victorious in both netball games, the soccer and football matches didn't favour us. Nevertheless, our students showed true sportsmanship, demonstrating resilience, respect, and willingness to give their best effort.
These past two weeks have been a testament to the spirit of sportsmanship and teamwork within our school community. Our young athletes have showcased their athletic abilities, character, and determination. As we look ahead to future matches, we do so with pride and excitement, knowing that, win or lose, our students will always give it their all on the field.
Here's to more thrilling matches and unforgettable moments in the weeks to come!

Congratulatios Raiders!
The U14 (D2) boys Bayside Raiders team won their Grand Final at the end of last season!
They have won back to back to premierships which is an awesome achievement for a small club up against some much bigger and dominant clubs. The boys actually finished 4th and had to beat the undefeated top team and the second team on the way to this win.
