Principal's News
Dear Parents and Carers,
Parents no doubt are aware that at Sacred Heart the children know that they come to school “To Have Fun and Learn Stuff”. This is our simple way of stating that the children’s welfare and education is our core business and that it guides all that we do here at school.
The children play a very active part in bringing this mission alive every day. They set an example for each other constantly, and they continue to make me proud of this school every day. As the parents and carers of these children, I hope they make you proud too.
FOUNDATION ENROLMENTS FOR 2025
Thank you to those parents who have completed our survey regarding enrolling a younger sibling in Foundation for 2025. We will be sending home Enrolment Application Forms to these families today. If you have not yet filled out this survey please do or call the office for a form in case we have missed you.
I am conscious that this is still quite early in the year and parents may not be certain as to whether a child will start in 2025 or 2026. My advice is always that there is no rush for children to begin. Most children turn six during their Foundation year and some may be already six on the first day.
Legally, children must have turned five by April 30th in their Foundation year to be enrolled but this is a minimum and does not reflect the demographics of most Foundation classes.
As always the Kindergarten teachers are excellent resources for parents if they are in any doubt about when their child should start school. If they express any doubt the wise parent will listen carefully. This advice is never a criticism, some of us just take longer to hit our straps (but we’re worth waiting for!). Advice to wait is given in the best interests of each individual child.
Enrolment Applications are due by Friday June 14. This will allow us time to finalise, as far as possible, classes for 2025.
SCHOOL HATS Sacred Heart is a “Sun Smart School” and as such requires our students to wear a hat whenever they are outside between the last week in August and the end of April. As we are nearing the end of April the children should take their hats home from today onwards where they can be washed and re-named as necessary. Thank you to parents for their cooperation with this life saving policy.
AUSTRALIAN EARLY DEVELOPMENT CENSUS The Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) is a nationwide data collection of early childhood development at the time children commence their first year of full-time school. The AEDC highlights what is working well and what needs to be improved or developed to support children and their families by providing evidence to support health, education and community policy and planning.
Our Foundation teachers must complete this survey during May this year in order that our school and community receives the Government support required.
PARENTS OF CHILDREN IN FOUNDATION SHOULD RECEIVE AN EMAIL WITH FURTHER DETAILS ABOUT THIS SURVEY AND SEEKING THEIR PERMISSION FOR US TO CARRY OUT THIS WORK. PLEASE CONTACT THE SCHOOL OFFICE IF YOU DO NOT RECEIVE THIS EMAIL AND HAVE A CHILD IN FOUNDATION (PREP)
WELLBEING SURVEY Can I draw your attention to a Wellbeing survey we are conducting using the School TV platform. My thanks to our Wellbeing Leader, Julie for organising this survey which we hope will better inform us of the needs in our student community in order that we target and prioritise support where it is most needed.
The survey can be accessed via the link on the Wellbeing page of today’s newsletter.
