Warraymaylaya Year 10-12 Culture and Career Pathways Retreat 2024

Last week, senior students from O'Connor Catholic College attended the Warraymaylaya Year 10-12 Culture and Career Pathways Retreat in Sydney.

The word Warraymaylaya means "Stand Together" and our students were able to reflect this with other students from across the Armidale Diocese as proud, young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Throughout the week, students had the opportunity to travel to the NSW Police Marine Area Command by Police vessel, visit the UNSW Nuru Gili Centre for Indigenous Programs, tour the UNSW University, participate in a workshop run by the South Cares Program and Barranggirra Program run by NRL club Rabbitohs. On day 3, Year 10 students departed for a Cultural cruise on the Tribal Warrior and learnt about the Gadigal people. as well as cultural songs, stories and dances, whilst Year 11 and Year 12 students visited St. Mary’s Cathedral , War Memorial & Yininmadyemi and then bravely completed the Burrawa Cultural Bridge Climb of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Our O'Connor students showed remarkable friendship, teamwork, resilience, and goal-setting skills. They truly embarked on a journey filled with memorable experiences!
