What have the Grade One's been up to?
Year One have been learning about what it means to monitor when reading. Students have explored different strategies to help comprehend their texts such as decoding, rereading and reading on, whilst being exposed to both Non-Fiction and Fiction texts. Students have been reflecting on the whole class texts by responding to comprehension questions independently. We are very proud of how hard the students have been working.
In Mathematics, Level One have been learning Addition. Students have been learning and practising different strategies to help solve addition facts such as using doubles and near doubles, bridging ten, adding tens and ones to a number and are now beginning to explore vertical addition.
During Writing, Level One students have been learning how to create meaningful sentences. The students have been practicing the appropriate use of punctuation such as capital letters and full stops. As a level, we have learnt about appropriate strategies to improve our grammar such as rereading, editing and revising our work. The students have been implementing this knowledge into their daily writing pieces such as recounts, information reports, picture prompt quick writes and letters to the V.I.P.
