Captain's Corner

Term Two

Elijah - We went to Canberra Camp on the 22nd of April and came back on the 26th of April and I had the best time ever! The Grade 6s all went to Canberra Camp and we learnt all about Australia’s capital territory. We all went to many places. The place I’d like to talk about was my favourite part of Canberra, I’m going to talk about the War Memorial.

The War Memorial was an amazing place that told so much history of World War 1, World War 2 and other wars in history. My favourite story was about a family who had to leave Darwin to Adelaide because of World War 2.

Another thing that we got to do with the War Memorial was the dawn service on ANZAC day. We had to stand for 1 hour and I enjoyed listening to one of the soldiers perform the last post.

Chloe-  Camp was the best week that I have ever experienced. I am so sad that it has all come to an end. We went to many fun places and had such good fun with all of our friends. One of the places that taught me a lot is the Royal Australian Mint.  I learnt about how different coins were made and how each coin's engravings have different meanings. Did you know that the Royal Australian Mint actually released a heart shaped token coin for Valentines Day! Cool, right?! At the souvenir shop I bought a King Charles coin that hasn’t been released yet! Another place that I loved to visit is the AIS also known as the Australian Institute of Sports. We saw a volleyball game that was already playing, and a gymnast training! They were very inspiring and looked like the were all trying their very best. These two places were where I enjoyed and learnt from the most.

Hayley- Term 2, Week 2. AKA the best week of my life! Canberra was absolutely astounding! We did a lot of really exciting things such as going to high court, Parliament house, Iplay, museums and more. As we arrived at school at 5am everyone was tired, cold but most definitely excited! The plane ride was quite fun actually getting to spend time with Ms Elbay and Stephanie! We played Uno for both rides to and back. As we arrived everyone was so excited! Including myself. Canberra was definitely one of the coldest places I’ve been but had the bluest sky ever! My 2 favourite places we went to are Geoscience and Questacon. At Geoscience we got to see a seismograph and do a scavenger hunt on rocks, crystals and fossils! We also got to touch Lava moon rock! So technically I touched the moon! My top favourite out of all of the places was Questacon! At questacon I got to spend quite a fair bit of money on crystals, candy and a pen! We got the choice to go on a 6 metre drop slide. I also spent some time on the speedball game. We got to explore the wonders of different experiments and games. Not to mention but we also had a lot of fun at the cabins when we had free time. Camp was the best camp ever.

Vivaan- Last to last week the Grade Sixes went on a camp to the capital of Australia, Canberra. All the Grade Sixes absolutely loved the experience of travelling on a plane on a school trip and getting a feel of visiting all the important buildings in Canberra. We went to the Parliament house, the AIS, the Geoscience Centre and much more. However, what I really loved about Canberra was the Australian Parliament House. Before we went in, we took a lot of pictures of the outside of the Parliament house and it was already astonishing from that moment on. We got to see the Senate and the House of Representatives and learnt what happens there and who makes up these rooms. I had a great experience there and what I loved was when we did a roleplay like we were presenting a bill in the house of Representatives. We had a guide who took us on a tour of the parliament house and I loved every bit of it. The Australian Parliament house was really inspiring to me and I can't wait to go on more trips and visit more buildings like this. Overall, the Canberra Camp was amazing and as a wise man once said, all good things must come to an end, the same way that our Canberra Camp came to an end, and I cant wait to share my experience with you all!
