Principal's  Report

Miss Carly Epskamp

Welcome to the DPS Week Five newsletter.

Acknowledgement of Country

Doncaster Primary School would like to acknowledge and pay respect to the traditional owners of the land: the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation. We recognise ancestors and elders, past, present and emerging. On behalf of all staff and the wider school community, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all people of different cultures and beliefs. We understand that we thrive, learn and live on Wurundjeri Country and we stand with all cultures united as one.

We are halfway through Term Two already, can you believe it? Things are looking bright for DPS students, we have had a lovely couple of weeks. There have been many special events so far this term including Mums and Muffins, Cross Country, School Photos, Walk to School Day, Robotics classes, Anzac Day Ceremony and many more.

Attendance

Well done to the 344 DPS students that have achieved 100% attendance in April. The following students are just some of those 344 that have achieved excellent attendance. Well done Ivy Z Prep P, Lucas Y 1M, Nick S 2S, Isabella M 3B, Mietta M 4S, Harris G 5K and Shekhar G 6J.

Remember: it is not okay to be away!

Mothers Day

We had quite a few Mothers Day events at DPS last week. The Prep students had their Mums/ Grandma’s and Nanna’s come to school for a morning of pampering. There was nail a polish station, a hand massage station and a muffin station where everyone got a snack. At the end of the morning, the Prep students sang a beautiful song to their visitors, which was very cute! Thanks to all of the Mums that attended our special morning and thanks to the Prep teachers for your organisation. The morning was a huge success.

We also held our annual Mother’s Day Stall on Friday 10th May, which was another success. Lots of keyrings, mugs and chocolates were sold and the students had a great time choosing gifts for their loved ones. A huge thank you to our PFG mums for your efforts with the Mothers Day Stall, you are wonderful!

Walk Safely to School Day

Last Friday, students participated in Walk Safely to School Day. Although it was a little wet in the morning, we still had a number of students who met Mr Spinks at the Bowling Club and walked to school with the group. Thanks Mr Spinks for organising the DPS Walk Safely to School Day

Cross Country Event

On Tuesday 14th May all DPS students participated in Cross Country. It was a great day with lots of students doing their best and trying new things. Congratulations to all DPS students who ran the Cross Country, we are extremely proud of the attitude and enthusiasm shown on the day. A huge THANK YOU to Mr Spinks for organising the event and our House Captains for their efforts on the day.

We are lucky to have a guest performer return to DPS, Ganga Giri is a didgeridoo virtuoso and master performer, who will perform just for us! After an introduction to how a didgeridoo is made and played, Ganga will demonstrate a range of animal sounds and solo rhythms, as well as some of his own original songs mixing Indigenous music with a dance beat! We hope that all parents/ guardians can come along. The Indigenous Assembly starts at 9:10am and will be held in the school gym.

Curriculum Day

On Wednesday 22nd May we have a Curriculum Day. This will mean that no students are required on site. Teachers will participate in a range of Professional Learning on this day.
