LOTE

In Indonesian language learning this fortnight, our youngest learners in Prep have continued to learn about colours and numbers, as well as some Indonesian animals. The komodo dragon has proven particularly popular!

Moving up a grade, our Year 1 and 2 students have continued to challenge themselves with single and double digit numbers, and have been learning how to express emotions through collaborative games and activities.

The Prep-Year 2 cohort has also revisited the art of Indonesian masks. Students explored how masks are used in Cirebon, located on the island of Java, learning about both mask production and performance.

Through games like 'Siapa Monyet?' (Who's the Monkey), Year 1 through 4 have been revising their general conversation skills. Year 3 and 4 have also been using our recent lessons on time to describe the time of day they do different daily activities, as well as how Indonesians greet each other.

Year 5 and 6 have continued learning prepositions, including using props to describe the location of objects. They have also been using cardinal directions to follow simple directions and determine the location of different places.

I look forward to where our language learning lessons take us next!

Visual Arts

This fortnight in Visual Arts, our Junior School students poured their creativity into crafting beautiful Mother's Day gifts, showcasing their artistic flair and appreciation for their loved ones. Across all year levels, students have eagerly dived into their new units, brimming with excitement for a term filled with imaginative creations and artistic exploration.

I also wanted to take this opportunity to give a big shout-out to one of our awesome artists in Year 3/4! Although they prefer to keep their name a secret, their artwork is too incredible to hide—it's totally amazing! We're super impressed by their talent and creativity. Keep rocking those art skills!

Performing Arts

I'm excited to share some details about this year's production, titled "Zoom!"

Inspired by the timeless fable of the tortoise and the hare, "Zoom!" promises to be an engaging and entertaining performance for both our students and our audience. With a modern twist on the classic tale, our production will explore themes of determination, perseverance, and the value of taking things at our own pace.

Auditions will be commencing next Tuesday during lunchtime. Auditions will continue throughout the week until all students who wish to audition have had their turn. We want to ensure that every student interested in participating has the opportunity to showcase their talents and enthusiasm for the production.

Your support and encouragement during this process are greatly appreciated. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns regarding the audition schedule or any other aspect of the production.

I look forward to sharing more updates and details about "Zoom!" with you in the coming weeks. Thank you for your support and encouragement as we prepare for this exciting production!

STEM

This Term in Science: Our students have been busy investigating the fascinating world of materials! Each grade level has taken on a unique project, developing their research skills and gaining a deeper understanding of the properties and uses of different materials.

Prep & Year 1/2: Our youngest scientists have been exploring the school grounds, identifying and learning about different materials in their surroundings. From wooden benches to metal gates and rubber playground surfaces, they have been discovering how diverse materials make up their everyday environment.

Year 3/4: Students have extended their knowledge by exploring how various materials are used in everyday life. They've investigated the importance of different materials in household items, clothing, and tools, understanding the reasons why certain materials are chosen for specific purposes.

Year 5/6: Our senior students have been studying changes to materials, focusing on reversible and irreversible changes. They have explored fascinating concepts like melting, freezing, burning, and rusting. Through experiments and research, they've learned to differentiate between changes that can be reversed and those that cannot.
