Around Our Level

We would like to warmly welcome Miss R to the Prep Team. She has been working in the Prep B classroom for the past two weeks and is currently completing her Pre-Service Teacher training at Yarra Road. She is studying in her second year at Deakin University. Miss R has been taking a number of small group and whole class lessons and we have loved having her in our classroom. She has enjoyed coming to Cross Country, taking a Mother’s Day craft activity and taking library. We certainly wish her all the very best in her future teaching career and for the valuable contribution she has made over the past two weeks.

Last Tuesday, 30th of April we had our Whole School Cross Country at the Lillydale Lake. Our Prep students had their very first school excursion. We had our snack at school and then we boarded the bus to the lake. We cheered for our house teams and the children ran 1km. Congratulations to all of our students for trying their best and earning points. Congratulations to Turner House who were the overall champions. Special mentions to the following prep students for their great running on the day. Well Done to Lewis for his outstanding attitude, resilience and sportsmanship. Thank you to all the parents that came and supported their children and assisted with crowd control and toileting on the day. It was very much appreciated.

In Literacy we have been learning about the sounds that ‘c’ and k’ make. We have been revising our heart words and introduced our new word for the week ‘can’.  We have been writing words and sounding out words on our whiteboards and word walls and writing a sentence in our books using sounding out.

Have a look at some of our students’ writing samples on our writer’s wall outside the staffroom and school office.

In Maths we have been learning about the different ways we can make 10 using picture story books, games and learning our ‘rainbow number facts’. We modelled making numbers using unifix blocks such as 5+5, 8+2, 7+3, 9+1, 6+4 etc and using a tens frame. We went outside and collected 10 items to paste onto our snake outline.

In class we have been making a card, flowers and a craft activity and poem with a handprint to give to our Mum’s on Mother’s Day. The children will also visit the Mother’s Day stall with their buddies and purchase items for presents. We hope that all of our Mum’s are spoilt and have a wonderful day on Sunday.
