Toby places 7th in Australia!

The Coles Australian Little Athletics Championships is an annual three-day National Championship for Under 13 - Under 15 age groups. This year the event was held in Adelaide over Friday 26th to Sunday 28th April 2024.

Year 8 student, Toby Smith, qualified for the Australian Little Athletics Championships in the Under 14 Javelin event and we are so pleased to announce that Toby came 7th in Australia (and is the top Victorian) with a throw of 36.72 meters!

What an incredible achievement, Toby!

Another step closer to competing on the world stage!

Our young karate champion, Jayden S. of 7F, continues to make waves in the Victoria Karate League (VKL)! At the VKL-Kobe Osaka event, held at Springers Leisure Centre in Keysborough on May 19, 2024, Jayden showcased his incredible skills and determination. Despite facing formidable opponents, he won three rounds and earned a well-deserved silver medal in the kata competition.

Jayden has already clinched two silver medals in the previous VKL tournaments, and he's more determined than ever to strike gold at the final VKL tournament on June 16, 2024.

His remarkable journey is not only about winning medals but also about preparing for the prestigious Japan Karate Association (JKA) World Tournament in October 2024 in Japan.

Jayden's journey is truly inspiring, and if you want to follow his performances then you can subscribe and like his YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/@j-karatedo.

State Schools Spectacular

The annual Victorian State Schools Spectacular program is an invaluable performing arts opportunity for Victoria’s government primary and secondary school students. The Spectacular is a large-scale annual performance that showcases the skills and talents of selected Victorian state school students. It's considered a prestigious opportunity for young performers to collaborate with peers and professionals in a high-quality production. The Spectacular has become an invaluable rite of passage for Victoria’s top young talent, and a cherished, memorable education experience for all participants.

Two of our Year 8 students have been selected for the 2024 State Schools Spectacular!

  • Eva Paolucci - Choir
  • Izayah Khazour - Principal Vocalist

Rehearsals are well underway. The SSSV will be performed at the John Cain Arena on Saturday 14 September followed by a television broadcast in December. Tickets will go on sale mid June.

Congratulations to Eva and Izayah!

Junior School Alternate Program Day

On Thursday 16th May, our Junior School students enjoyed wearing free dress and participating in a variety of engaging activities designed to help them develop essential strategies for managing emotions and responding to antisocial, bullying, and discriminatory behaviour.

On butchers paper, students drew out a human body and were asked to brainstorm and draw the physical responses they might feel in flight, fight or freeze moment. Students also considered careers where anger is experienced.

A special highlight of the day was the live theatre experience 'Sticks & Stones' by Brainstorm Productions! Alex and Kieran captivated our students by acting out real-life scenarios that many teenagers face. Through these performances, students witnessed firsthand the effectiveness of responding in the right way and learned when and how to seek help. The performance explored various forms of bullying and aggression, and emphasized the importance of respect, assertiveness, and conflict resolution in all areas of life—whether at school, at home, or online.

Students were challenged to reflect on the impact of their behaviour and develop strategies for managing emotions, seeking help, and building respectful relationships.

Hey Neighbours!

While all of our students were offsite enjoying the DSC Athletics Day, Junior School was still a hive of activity with Grade 6 students from Doncaster Primary School attending a special science day in W-Block. It was great to meet local students and we were so impressed with their inquisitive and friendly personalities. Hopefully we will get to meet more DPS students when the Grade 6 to Year 7 Transition period begins in Term 3.
