Artist in Residence - Vivian Qiu

During last term's Year 9 Cluster Day on 'Innovators', one of our guest speakers was Vivian Qiu. Vivian is a DSC alumni and an emerging artist with backgrounds in jewellery, fashion and fine art.  She primarily works with rice as her main material. With her living experience in different countries, she explores her roots and identity through her material research. Vivian makes culturally significant materials for her jewellery and artwork, such asrice fabric, rice clay and soil clay.

We are thrilled to have Vivian return to DSC to do a Creative Learning Partnership program supported by Creative Victoria. She’ll be joining teacher David Glaubitz in Terms 2 and 3 this year, guiding Year 9 3D Art students jewellery-making techniques, as well as how their cultural backgrounds influence their design thinking.

To read more about Vivian Qiu's background and her artworks, please see her website:

DSC Cross Country

Despite the autumn cloud and chill lingering in the morning air on Friday 3rd May, the spirit of our students burned bright as they tackled our Cross Country Trials! With determination in their hearts, they pushed themselves to the limit to qualify for the Division Cross Country Carnival on Friday 17th May.

Maths Competitions

At the end of Term 1, we had 80 students from Year 7-9 participate in the Kangourou sans frontières (KSF) maths competition. KSF is currently the largest maths competition globally, boasting over 6 million participants annually.

Among our participants, 6 students achieved a Distinction, placing them in the top 15% of Australian participants. These students are Lucas Horvath (Year 9), Tiger Nguyen (Year 8), Aidan Yeong (Year 8), Kaisen Lin (Year 7), Leo Xue (Year 7), and Owen Chen (Year 7).

Educational Support Personnel Day

On Thursday 16th May, DSC celebrated ESP Day with a morning tea organised by teachers, Darren Iape and Luisa Allen. ESP Day provides the opportunity to honour and recognise the contribution our education support staff make to the education of our students at Doncaster Secondary College.

A big thank you to Mr Iape's wife for making an extraordinary wall installation for ESP day!

Camps, Sports & Excursions Fund (CSEF) applications

School camps provide children with inspiring experiences in the great outdoors. Excursions encourage a deeper understanding of how the world works while sports teach teamwork, discipline and leadership.  All are a part of a healthy curriculum.

CSEF is provided by the Victorian Government to assist eligible families to cover the costs of school trips, camps, and sporting activities. If you hold a valid means-tested concession card or are a temporary foster parent, you may be eligible for CSEF. A special consideration category also exists for asylum seeker and refugee families.

The allowance is paid to the school to use towards expenses relating to camps, excursions or sporting activities for the benefit of your child. If you would like to apply for the first time, please contact the school office on 9848 4677 and ask for an application form, alternatively see attached application form.

Applications for CSEF must be submitted by 28 June 2024.
