TERM 2 REPORT
The DSC Sport Program has simply gone to another level throughout Term 2 and as we wrap up Week 6, I can already confirm that our participation numbers have never been higher, and we are also seeing a level of success on the field that we have never achieved before.
The term so far has included the State Swimming Championships, State 3v3 Basketball Championship, DSC and Division Cross Country Carnivals, Senior, Intermediate and Year 8 Round Robin Tournaments as well as the biggest event of them all, the DSC Athletics Carnival. Unbelievably, we won’t just stop there as we have more than 100 Year 7 students preparing for their Round Robin Tournament next week as well as Junior Girls AFL, Regional Cross Country and the John Timms Shield (Senior 3v3 Tournament) all still to come this term.
We are forever proud of all of the DSC Sport Teams, but it is important to make special mention of those teams who have achieved outstanding success on the field by being crowned Division Championships and qualifying for the Eastern Regional Championships for their respective sports later this year. Throughout Term 2, we have secured a place at a further eight Division Championships, on top of the one we collected throughout Term 1.
Check out our Division Champions below as well as the confirmed dates for their Eastern Regional Championships:
- Senior Boys AFL – Tuesday 16th July 2024
- Intermediate Boys Soccer – Monday 22nd July 2024
- Senior Boys Soccer – Thursday 25th July 2024
- Senior Girls Badminton – Friday 26th July 2024
- Year 8 Boys Soccer – Friday 26th July 2024
- Senior Girls Basketball – Thursday 1st August 2024
- Intermediate Girls Soccer – Tuesday 6th August 2024
- Senior Girls Netball – Friday 9th August 2024
- Year 7 Boys Cricket – Thursday 31st October 2024
Once again, I would like to thank the many staff who have been involved in the DSC Sport Program this year. The support that the staff provide the DSC Sport Program is the reason why the students have so many opportunities to showcase their talents on the sporting field.
Senior Sport
Three days of Division Round Robin Tournaments were packed into the first month of Term 2 for our senior students. Despite having to balance the academic demands of VCE/VM studies with extracurricular activities, it was great to see DSC field teams for the following sports; Boys and Girls AFL, Boys and Girls Soccer, Boys and Girls Basketball, Boys and Girls Badminton, Boys Table Tennis, Girls Netball and Boys Lawn Bowls.
Incredibly, our Boys AFL, Boys Soccer, Girls Basketball, Girls Badminton and Girls Netball teams have all qualified for the Eastern Regional Championships next term.
However, I wanted to make a very special mention to our Senior Girls Badminton team who secured the first Badminton Division Championship in more than six years, an amazing achievement.
Intermediate Sport
The Term 2 Intermediate Division Sport Round Robin Tournaments took place on Tuesday 14th May and with yet another group of over 100 students participating in the various sports on the day, this cohort continues to amaze me with their participation numbers on the sports field.
DSC managed to field teams in the following sports; Boys and Girls AFL, Boys and Girls Soccer, Boys and Girls Badminton and Girls Netball. Just like our senior students, our intermediate students did not just want to participate, as our Boys and Girls Soccer teams were crowned Division Champions and have qualified for the Eastern Regional Championships next term.
On Tuesday, May 14th the Intermediate Girls Soccer Team played their hearts out and left the field undefeated, securing a spot in the next round! We are incredibly proud of our students, not just for their stellar performance, but for how they represented our school. They embodied our core values: showing respect towards each other, their opponents and the referees; taking responsibility for their actions; displaying resilience by embracing challenges; and demonstrating teamwork by supporting and encouraging one another. Congratulations, team! Lets continue to cheer them on as they prepare for the regional level.

Year 8 Sport
The Term 2 Year 8 Division Sport Round Robin Tournaments took place on Thursday 23rd May and although it was a smaller group in comparison to our senior and intermediate sport days, those who did represent DSC, did so to the best of their ability.
Thanks to some great recruiting by our passionate students, we managed to field teams in Boys Soccer, Boys and Girls Badminton and Girls Netball. The Boys Soccer team managed to survive a nervous final match and secured a draw which was enough to be crowned Division Champions, another great achievement.
Year 7 Sport
The Term 2 Year 7 Division Sport Round Robin Tournaments will take place next Wednesday 29th May and this is shaping up to be a massive day with more than 100 students expected to represent the college. We will have teams representing DSC in Boys AFL, Boys and Girls Soccer, Boys and Girls Badminton and Girls Netball.
State 3v3 Basketball Championship
On Wednesday 24th April, the DSC Senior Girls 3v3 Basketball team competed in the State 3v3 Basketball Championships. This is a prestigious tournament that school teams must qualify for at various qualifying events throughout Term 1.
Our Senior Girls team were dominant throughout the group stage of the tournament, however they unfortunately weren’t able to get the job done in the semi-final. Soon after this loss, the entire team showed great grit and determination to claim victory in their next game which secured them third place for the tournament. It should not be lost on anyone how incredible this achievement is and the entire team should be very proud of themselves.
State Swimming Championship
As we mentioned in the newsletter at the end of Term 1, Year 10 student, Austin Bartlett, had successfully qualified for the State Swimming Championships on Friday 19th April. Austin managed to come 5th in the Under 16 50m Freestyle event which is an outstanding accomplishment. Great job Austin!
