Year 8 News
Rudely Interrupted: Live from the P.A.C. Proudly supported by Year 8 English.
Today our Year 8 students experienced an unforgettable and inspiring incursion as part of their Rap and Lyrics unit in English. The event featured an electrifying concert performance and an engaging question and answer session with the band Rudely Interrupted, a group of incredibly talented musicians who live with various disabilities, including autism, Down's Syndrome, blindness, and an acquired brain injury. Rudely Interrupted have toured internationally 11 times across 14 countries, have performed for the United Nations, feature regularly on the Australian festival circuit, and today got to perform from the ever-famous McClelland College Performing Arts Centre.
The incursion began with Rudely Interrupted taking the stage, immediately captivating the audience with their dynamic energy and powerful melodies. The students were thrilled, clapping along to the beat and cheering for the band members while waving their glow sticks. This performance was not only entertaining but also served as a practical example of how music, writing lyrics, and performance can be powerful tools to influence and convey important messages to an audience.
Following the concert, the excitement continued with a Q&A session, during which the Year 8s had the opportunity to interact directly with the band. Our students asked insightful questions about the band's journey, their personal experiences, and the challenges they have faced and overcome. They also discussed the process of writing lyrics and how they use their music to express their thoughts and advocate for inclusivity and resilience. This provided students with a real-life example of the content we have been studying this Term in our English lessons.
We extend our deepest thanks to Rudely Interrupted for visiting McClelland College and sharing their incredible music and stories with us. Their visit has undoubtedly left a lasting impact on our Year 8 cohort, reminding us all of the importance of inclusion, perseverance, and the boundless potential within each of us. Excitingly, the event will possibly be featured in the local Bayside News next week, and also in the documentary currently being filmed about Rudely Interrupted.
This concert has greatly enriched our Rap and Lyrics unit in English, showing students firsthand how music and lyrics can be used to influence and send meaningful messages to an audience.
We look forward to more events like this that enhance our students' educational journey and broaden their perspectives.
Thank you, Rudely Interrupted, for a day we will always remember!
