Athletics Day

The class of 2024 took part in their final House Athletics Day on Monday 13th of May. On this dynamic day, students from each house united to showcase their athletic prowess and team spirit. From thrilling sprint races to impressive long jumps, our students competed with passion and determination, all while proudly representing their respective houses. The event isn't just about physical prowess; it's about fostering camaraderie, sportsmanship, and a sense of belonging within our school community. The year 12 cohort dressed up as usual, with costumes including the Joker, the Adventure Time crew, Mario and gang, and the Irwin Family complete with a crocodile.

Uniopoly

During MAP study space Year 11  VCE students participated in Uniopoly, a fun and interactive game organised by Access Monash. Teams of ten students navigated through various aspects of university life by rolling a colourful dice, each colour representing different questions related to surviving VCE, transitioning to university, applying to university, costs of post-school study, along with other topics. The students were quite competitive as they were learning about university pathways and gaining insights from Access Monash Mentors, preparing them for their future pathways.

Modern History Excursion - The Melbourne Holocaust Museum

On Wednesday May 8, as part of our unit on Social and Cultural Change in Nazi Germany, the Year 11 Modern History class visited the Melbourne Holocaust Museum in Elsternwick.  The students participated in a program called In Touch with Memory.  During this program students were given a tour of the Museum with its many exhibits charting the lives and losses of Holocaust victims and survivors.  The students were also given an opportunity to closely examine artefacts relating to the time period, items donated to the museum by survivors of the Holocaust who emigrated to Melbourne after the war.  The visit culminated in a Q&A session with Holocaust survivor Sarah Saaroni OAM.  The students heard Sarah’s amazing story of bravery and resilience and were given the opportunity to ask her questions about her life.

During our visit to the Holocaust museum, our class had the opportunity to examine some artefacts and gain a deeper understanding of the struggles and mistreatment experienced by the Jewish people. We were guided through the museum by our tour guide who provided us with detailed explanations of the exhibits and artefacts we were viewing. It was a powerful and eye-opening experience for all of us.  Abbie B.

The Holocaust excursion was one of the most memorable and impactful excursions I have ever been on. To have the opportunity to listen and learn about the horrors of the holocaust from a Jewish survivor is something I will forever be grateful for. I have reflected on myself as a person too, and how I can better treat others, as I now understand the negative impact my words and actions can have. Lucy B
