What's Happening in the F/1 Classroom?
It's been another busy fortnight in the F/1 room, with some last minute changes that the students have adapted beautifully to. We have reflected on the sacrifices the ANZACs made for us and enjoyed attending the service at the Aged Care. We listened to David Keall speak about his time in the Army and asked some amazing questions. We also explored the symbols of ANZAC day and enjoyed discovering all the different types of badges people might wear on the day. It was wonderful to see the children grow in understanding about ANZAC day and show so much respect throughout discussions and during the service.
This week in Literacy we have been focussing on the c/k/ck sound. The students have enjoyed finding this sound while reading, discovering more and more words with the sound each day.
How many c/k/ck words can you find in the picture below?
Our tasks have been based around practicing the c/c/ck sound, building and decoding simple words and our letter formation and fine motor skills.
As part of our unit on ‘Connection’ the students discussed their knowledge of the wider community and the businesses in the main street of Nagambie. We then illustrated our favourite shops and created our own little map of Nagambie, using language such as ‘next to’, ‘in front of’, ‘behind’, ‘closer’ and ‘further’ to describe where each shop is located.
We have also been practicing our counting, making amounts to match numerals, practicing writing our numbers and adding amounts together using the + sign.
This week we searched for information on the Internet. We practiced typing words into the search engine, clicking on links to read, finding images and watching videos of our chosen topic. The children loved exploring different ways of seeking information and enjoyed becoming more confident with using the iPads.
