Wellbeing with Cate.

Welcome to the Wellbeing page. I am Cate and I work at Violet Street on Tuesdays and Fridays to support the students and the school with wellbeing.

Why does wellbeing matter in Primary Schools?

We all want our children to thrive and reach their full potential. Wellbeing is a vital part of this. Wellbeing is social, emotional and mental health and it is what helps us all be the best we can be. In primary school it lays the foundation for future resilience and coping skills.

2 Tips for Supporting Wellbeing

  1. Listen and acknowledge feelings. Create a safe space to let children tell you how they feel. You don’t have to fix the problem. Often listening and understanding is enough
  2. Encourage positive relationships. Adults with strong social connections are less likely to suffer from depression, so encourage and teach your children about making connections and friendships.

I will be regularly putting information in the newsletter, and plan to cover information on the Zones of Regulation that the school is focusing on with the students. If there are other things you would particularly like me to cover feel free to email me -  cate.burns@education.vic.edu.au.
