Principal's Report

Tim Hogan

Welcome Back

I hope everyone had a great break and enjoyed spending some quality time with family and friends. I thank all the families who attended the Parent-Teacher Interviews last term. For those who missed out, please reach out to your child's teacher during the first few weeks of Term 2 to check on their progress.

As we return, it's time to transition into full Winter Uniform for Term 2. This means wearing the school tie every day, except on sport's uniform days. You can get school ties from Academy Uniforms, accessible through their website: http://www.academyuniforms.com.au

Positive Behaviour for Learning

We have continued to raise the bar on learning in our classrooms as we begin Term 2. Through the introduction of several simple routines across the school including classroom entry and exit procedures, formal greetings, ready to learn signals, matching speaking levels to activity level and random question selection method used to ensure equitable participation and engagement among students we are looking to create great classrooms for learning.

Classrooms which:

· Help students concentrate better on their studies and can engage more deeply with the material being taught.

· Teach students the importance of respect for their learning environment and for each other.

· Creates a positive atmosphere in the classroom and leads to a more positive attitude towards learning and participation.

· Assists teachers so they can be more effective in their instruction and can focus on delivering high-quality lessons and providing individualised support to students.

Overall, our focus is on effective teaching and learning by creating an environment that is conducive to concentration, respect and engagement. I thank you for the ongoing conversations of support and encouragement with your children, their job of learning can be difficult at times and we want them to be at their best for their learning every day and in every period.

ANZAC Day

As we approach the ANZAC Day holiday next week, it's a time for us to pause and contemplate its significance in Australian culture. On ANZAC eve will conduct a Commemoration at St John’s as a reminder to honour the sacrifices made not only by the ANZAC troops but also by all Australian and New Zealand soldiers who have bravely served and fallen in conflicts, wars and peacekeeping missions.

Staffing

Ms Frankie Flannagan will be relocating to Tasmania for family reasons, effective from May 2. I thank her for her work with our students over a number of years and wish her well on the exciting opportunities that lie ahead for her in Tasmania.

I advise that Mr Michael Almery has advised me that he will be resigning from St. John's Regional College to take up a role at Overnewton Anglican Community College in Keilor. I thank Michael for his work in our community and wish him well on the next stage of his career.

I also welcome Mr Mark Bowler to the PE Faculty in replacing Ms Alice Liu.
