Principal's Message

I hope that everyone had a rejuvenating break and relished the time spent with family and friends. The first weeks back at school have been a flurry of activity, with students fully engaged in various enriching experiences.

Our Year 9 students have delved into their Morrisby Profiling assessments. These diagnostic tests serve as guiding lights, aiding our young learners in charting their career paths. Meanwhile, the great outdoors beckoned our Year 9 and 10 Outdoor Education classes. From stand-up paddleboarding at Mentone Beach to rock climbing adventures, our students embraced nature's classroom wholeheartedly.

In tandem with these academic pursuits, we've been fostering a culture of holistic development. An information evening was held for students interested in STEAM-related learning, presenting them with the exciting opportunity of participating in the upcoming Ocean School trip organized by CASE.

The second week of term began with the Aerobics Showcase and concluded with the Regional qualifiers at the weekend. I was delighted to see the spotlight shine on our students' talents and achievements at the Monday night Showcase and then see their finely-tuned routines in competition.

Tuesday night was dedicated to displaying the essence of MGSC at our Show & Tell Information evening. Prospective families had the opportunity to witness firsthand the vibrant tapestry of our curriculum and co-curricular offerings. As a parent myself, I understand the weight of choosing the right educational environment for one's child. At MGSC, we pride ourselves on nurturing independent thinkers who fearlessly embrace challenges, and our students' diverse interests reflect this ethos.

Wednesday we had the privilege of hosting Cr Jenna Davey-Burns, a distinguished alumna of MGSC and the current Mayor of the City of Kingston, as our guest speaker for the Anzac Day Assembly. Jenna's commitment to community service and advocacy for inclusivity resonates deeply with our school values. Her inspiring journey serves as a reminder that MGSC is a launchpad for success both within and beyond the school gates. The Assembly included a traditional acknowledgement of the sacrifices of those that have served our nation with a moving Last Post and minute's silence.

This week there was another day filled with excitement as we celebrated our Athletics Carnival. It was a joyous occasion marked by spirited competition and house spirit. Students showcased their athleticism and dedication to their respective houses, making the day truly memorable.

It's worth celebrating the rich tapestry of our student body. With over two-thirds of our students hailing from outside the local area, MGSC truly embodies inclusivity and diversity. Whether they're from down the street or across town, every student finds a welcoming community here.

As we reflect on our achievements, it's heartening to note that MGSC continues to excel academically. Ranked as the 19th best performing government school in the state, and the 13th when excluding select-entry schools, our track record speaks volumes about the quality of education our students receive.

As we look ahead, let's continue to foster an environment where every girl, from everywhere, can thrive and succeed.

Best wishes

Linda Brown
