Year 5/6
What a wonderful start to the year we have had in 5/6! We have been spending time establishing our routines, building relationships and settling back into our classroom learning. We have had a calm, peaceful and positive start to the year.
An area of particular interest and excitement this week has been our 'quiet corner'. This is a space in the classroom for students to sit in prayer, read a book, practice mindfulness or simply enter into a different calm space for their learning. The weighted toy animals have also been a welcome addition; providing students with a physical tool to feel grounded and connected.
In numeracy, we have been developing our growth mindsets. We explored this concept by scrunching up bits of paper, launching them across the room, picking them up and unravelling them to find many little creases. These creases represent the synaptic connections that develop in our brains every time we make a mistake. This means that with every error, our knowledge expands, and our brains quite literally...grow!
Grade 6 Beginning of the year observations
The start of the year has been great because my younger brother Blake is in Prep.
