Educational Achievement

Reading

At Goondiwindi State Primary School, reading is more than just a subject—it’s a priority! We believe that reading is a key to unlocking countless opportunities for learning, growth, and imagination. Whether it’s exploring new worlds, gaining knowledge, or simply enjoying a good story, reading has the power to shape our students' futures in so many positive ways.

We are passionate about encouraging our students to read every day. From picture books, decodable readers and chapter books, we want every child to find the joy of reading and make it a daily habit.

Reading helps to build vocabulary, improve language skills, and develop critical thinking abilities. It opens doors to understanding new subjects and discovering new interests. Through reading, students are not only learning how to read words on a page but also learning about the world around them.

At Gundy State, we encourage families to make reading a part of their daily routine. Whether it’s a bedtime story, reading together during the day, or even letting your child pick their favourite books, the important thing is to keep on reading! Together, we can create a community of young readers who are inspired to read, explore, and grow!

Happy reading! 📚

Classroom Music

Music lessons are well underway with students learning about the routines and procedures in the Music Classroom. It is fascinating to read about how music and language share a pathway in young brains. Music in primary school, especially in the younger years, helps lay the foundation for language and literacy. If you would like further information on this topic you can go to : Bigger Better Brains (on Facebook) or biggerbetterbrains.com.au

Choirs begins this week on a Tuesday lunch time for the juniors (Goondiwindi Junior Voices - Years 2 & 3) and on a Thursday lunch time for the seniors (Goondiwindi Senior Voices - Years 4, 5 & 6). A letter with more information will be given out during the week. The back page of these letters needs to be returned to either the office or the music room. We're looking forward to another fabulous year in music this year at GSPS!!
