Message From Our Principal

Mrs Jackie Stockdale

The newsletter is coming to you a little late this fortnight because I have been super busy being in classrooms this last week. I have spent 2 hours in each classroom observing their 'literacy block'. Observing the implementation of MultiLit (F-2) and Ochre (3-6) in our classrooms has given me valuable insight into how these programs support our students learning at different stages. It has been beneficial to see the strategies in action, understand how they are tailored to meet students' needs, and witness the positive impact on literacy development across year levels.

Regular school attendance is vital for a child’s academic, social, and emotional development. Attending school every day ensures students don’t miss out on essential learning experiences, helping them build foundational knowledge and skills across all subjects. Consistent attendance promotes positive habits, improves social connections with peers, and strengthens relationships with teachers, creating a supportive learning environment. Missing school, even occasionally, can lead to gaps in understanding that may be difficult to catch up on, affecting both confidence and long-term achievement. By attending school regularly, students are better prepared for future educational and career opportunities, setting them up for lifelong success.

We are 4 weeks into the new school year and our attendance data needs to improve:

This week, our school community came together to celebrate the Beginning of the Year Mass, marking the start of a new school year with reflection, gratitude, and hope. It was a wonderful opportunity for students, staff, and families to gather in prayer, seeking blessings for the year ahead. The Mass reminded us of the importance of kindness, respect, and working together as we begin this journey. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to making this special occasion a meaningful start to 2025.

During the mass we introduced and blessed our 2025 School Leaders and Student Advisory Council Council Leaders as they embark on their leadership journey for the year ahead.

I am proud to announce that our Grade 6 Leaders for 2025 are:

Xavier, Jack, Zeb, Colman, Hugh, Dusty, Colt, Toby, Jmes (absent) and Amelia (absent).

Our Student Advisory Council Leaders, who were nominated by their class, for 2025 are:

Foundation: Pippa & Finn

Grade 4: Charli & Maddi

Grade 5-6: Colman & Jack

Community partnerships are vital to our school as they strengthen the connections between students, families, local organizations, and the wider community. These relationships enrich learning experiences, provide valuable resources, and offer real-world opportunities that support student growth beyond the classroom. By working together, we create a supportive network that fosters belonging, encourages active citizenship, and helps our students develop important life skills. Strong community partnerships ensure that education is a shared responsibility, benefiting everyone involved.

This year we have a group of Grade 5 students visiting the kindergarten each week with Mrs Gee. We also have a member from the Tongala Mens Shed coming onsite at school to work with a group of Grade 3-4 students. Our Grade 3 students are visiting the Tongala Nursing Home on a fortnightly basis with Mrs stock and Tyarna. A group of Grade 3-4 students are visiting the Tongala Community Centre each week for sewing lessons

We are so proud of the students who participated in Campaspe Swimming Competition in Echuca on Friday. Their resilience and determination was exceptional and they did our school proud!!!

We are excited to continue our morning reading sessions before school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 to 9:00 am. It’s been lovely seeing family members in the yard, sharing in the joy of listening to the children read. These sessions are a wonderful way to start the day, helping students build confidence, improve their reading skills, and foster a love of books. We encourage families to join us and be part of this special time that strengthens both literacy and our school community.

It was fantastic to see so many families in the school last week engaging in valuable learning conversations. These moments are so important for strengthening the partnership between home and school, ensuring students are supported in their learning journey. A big thank you to our dedicated teachers for their time, preparation, and commitment to making these conversations meaningful and productive. Your efforts are truly appreciated!
