PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Dear Parents and Carers,
Harmony Week.
This week is ‘Harmony Week’ - a celebration that recognises our diversity as a community and brings Australians from all different backgrounds together. It’s a celebration of inclusiveness, respect and creates a sense of belonging for all people.
Friday is also the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. SCSC has a long standing ‘Inclusion and Diversity Policy’ that includes addressing racial discrimination. Last year, our school was an early adopter of the Department of Education’s new policy resources that saw us develop our own local ‘Racism Prevention and Intervention Policy’.
We take an educative approach with our young people on this topic and support them to develop a deeper understanding of the impact of racism, while also supporting the development of inclusive behaviours and the acceptance of difference amongst all people.
Throughout this week there are range of activities happening to celebrate Harmony Week. Many of these are fun, lunchtime activities are on in the library that students can join in with their friends. Lookout for pictures and stories about Harmony Week on the college social media platforms.
NAPLAN.
NAPLAN is well underway and our Year 7 and 9 students have been exceptional in how cooperatively they have participated.
This year, the VCAA sent a NAPLAN ’observer’ to our college on the first morning of testing. Their role is to ensure the correct processes are followed, guidelines are being adhered to, and the overall quality of how NAPLAN is implemented at our school.
Our observer commented that after 15 years of visiting schools what she saw at SCSC was ‘absolutely brilliant’! She also happens to be a local to our area and commented on how pleased she was to see our local government secondary school performing so well.
I’d like to say a very big thank you to the staff and students involved in this process for setting such a high standard.
Open Night.
This year’s open night was a great success and saw over 400 visitors to our school - our biggest open night yet!
Guests started their time on campus with an information session before heading off on self-guided tours that allowed the opportunity to chat with teachers and students who were working throughout our buildings and grounds.
Since open night we have had ongoing enrolment enquiries, not just for Year 7 2026, but across all year levels, many families wishing to start this year.
Our school is currently experiencing enrolment pressure and we can no longer accept enrolments from outside our school’s designated neighbourhood area.
I’d like to thank everyone in the SCSC community for your engagement that is creating a school with such a positive community perception. We are proud of what we do, we are happy to share our story with the wider community and it is pleasing to see so many people showing a renewed interest is what our college can offer their children.
Take care,
Shane Elevato
