From the Principal

Dear Families,

This week we received our 2026 NAPLAN results, and they gave us every reason to celebrate.

Our students achieved outstanding results. In Grade 3, Lysterfield Primary School performed above both similar schools and our local network in all five assessment areas: Reading, Writing, Spelling, Numeracy, and Grammar & Punctuation. In Grade 5, our students performed above both similar schools and the network in three of the five assessment areas, and above the network in a fourth.

The data below compares Lysterfield Primary School's results with similar schools and our local network, providing valuable context for understanding our students' achievement and growth.

Just as importantly, our students are not only achieving highly, they are making exceptional progress.

Between Years 3 and 5, 94% of our Grade 5 students achieved medium or high growth in Spelling, while 93% achieved medium or high growth in Grammar and Punctuation. These figures are substantially higher than those of similar schools and our network and reflect the positive impact of the improvements we have made to our literacy curriculum over recent years.

Families sometimes ask why schools place so much emphasis on data such as NAPLAN. For us, it isn't about comparing ourselves to other schools. It is about understanding whether the work we are doing is making a meaningful difference for students. Data helps us evaluate our teaching, identify where students need additional support, and continue refining our curriculum so that every child has the opportunity to succeed.

While NAPLAN is only one measure of student learning, these results provide strong evidence that our explicit, knowledge-rich approach to teaching is having a positive impact.

For us, success isn't measured by a single test. It is measured by the opportunities our students will have because they can read fluently, write confidently, think mathematically and continue learning independently. These NAPLAN results give us confidence that we are helping more students build those foundations than ever before, and that is something worth celebrating.

I would like to congratulate our students on the effort they put into their learning each day, thank our dedicated staff for their expertise and commitment, and acknowledge the invaluable support of our families. These results are something our entire Pegasus community can be incredibly proud of.
