World Expo - a roaring success
On Tuesday 16 June, our Grade 5 and 6 students proudly hosted the Donvale Primary School World Expo, welcoming students, staff and many members of our wider school community to this exciting bi-annual event.
Throughout the term, students have worked collaboratively in Humanities lessons to research and learn about a country of their choice. They explored a range of cultural, geographical and historical aspects, developing a deeper understanding of what makes each country unique and how it compares to life here in Australia.
Students showcased their learning through engaging and interactive displays, demonstrating their creativity and digital technology skills through quizzes, games and multimedia presentations. Many groups also organised raffles and prizes to further engage visitors and promote their country.
The World Expo was a wonderful celebration of student learning, teamwork and global citizenship. All students who participated should be incredibly proud of the effort, enthusiasm and dedication they demonstrated throughout the project. Congratulations to our senior students on delivering such a successful and memorable event.
Lions Club Speaking Competition
Over the past few weeks, our Grade 5 and 6 students have been busy preparing for the annual Lions Club Public Speaking Competition. This year’s topic, “If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, past or present, who would it be and why?”, inspired students to research, write and present engaging speeches about a person they admire or find fascinating.
Throughout the preparation process, students developed a range of literacy and communication skills. They researched their chosen individual, planned and drafted their speeches, revised their work, and published a polished final piece. Students also spent time refining their public speaking skills, focusing on voice projection, expression, eye contact, body language and audience engagement.
Each student had the opportunity to present their speech to their peers, demonstrating impressive confidence, preparation and enthusiasm. The quality of presentations across the cohort was outstanding, making the selection of finalists an extremely challenging task.
The top 16 speakers were then invited to present before a panel of Lions Club judges. These students represented the senior school exceptionally well, showcasing remarkable confidence, creativity and communication skills.
We are incredibly proud of all students for embracing the challenge and putting themselves outside of their comfort zones. Their dedication and effort throughout the process were commendable. Congratulations to all finalists on their outstanding presentations, and a special congratulations to Hugo C and Jayden C, who were selected as the Grade 5/6 winners and will proudly represent Donvale Primary School in the next stage of the competition.
