2026 Year 7 NAPLAN Results
Birranga College has received its preliminary 2026 Year 7 NAPLAN results, which provide valuable information about student achievement in reading, writing conventions, spelling and numeracy. While NAPLAN is only one measure of student learning, it is used alongside classroom assessments, teacher judgement and student work samples to build a comprehensive understanding of each student's progress and achievement. The College is pleased with the overall performance of this Year 7 cohort, with the majority of students achieving in the Strong or Exceeding proficiency bands across all assessed areas. Spelling was the strongest area of achievement, while language conventions (grammar and punctuation) has been identified as an area for further improvement. The College has already begun analysing this data to inform targeted interventions, refine classroom instruction and strengthen explicit teaching practices, particularly in literacy and numeracy. These results will also support ongoing school improvement planning and help identify students who may benefit from additional support or extension opportunities.
Parents / Carers should be aware that the College has received your child's ISRs (NAPLAN results) and they will be given out on Tuesday 21st July for each child to bring home. Parents and carers should ask their child for this documentation.
To support parents and carers in understanding the NAPLAN results, an information brochure for parents and carers can now be downloaded from the VCAA website. The brochure is also available in multiple languages to support accessibility for all families. Along with the brochure parents, and carers may find the following video on reading the Individual Student Report useful to understand student-level reporting and the proficiency standards for NAPLAN.
Homework Help
Birranga College runs homework help on Wednesday afternoons from 3.10 – 4pm in the library. If your child attends, you will receive a courtesy email notifying you. It will be up to all parents/carers to organise their child’s travel home.
Coursework support
Birranga College is always looking for opportunities where staff can support students in their learning, particularly when it comes to supporting them with understanding new skills/knowledge. Parents-carers may receive a phone-call and/or email from a teacher alerting them to a ‘coursework support’ session that they have requested for your child. This coursework support time could be run at lunchtime or afterschool – but you will receive email correspondence confirming this. There are a number of reasons a teacher may provide strategic support which could be for some or more of the following reasons:
-Student has been away and their teacher would like to bring them up to speed with some key information they have missed / not grasped during class time
-Your child has requested some additional support
Year 7 Humanities Excursion Day
All Year 7 students are undertaking a whole day excursion, Thursday 6th August, via public transport, into the Melbourne Museum to connect classroom learning in various subjects to real-world experiences through exhibitions, interactive learning, and inquiry tasks.
Parents-Carers should check on Compass for how to provide consent for their child.
Parents-Carers are responsible for dropping off their child to Cranbourne station in the morning at 8am and collecting them or coordinating arrangements for their collection from 3.30pm dismissal.
There will be NO Yr 7 classes running on this day and NO alternate program running at school, so that we can have maximum supervision for your child on that day. Parents-Carers note that your child will be with a staff member in small groups all day, including on public transport.
Emergency Management
Birranga College takes seriously its duty to maintain a safe school environment for its students, staff, parents and visitors. As part of our continued drive to enhance our Emergency Management processes the College held a practice ‘lock-down’ during term 2. We were pleased with the cooperation of our students and the maturity they showed in supporting this practice drill. This semester the College will continue to conduct further emergency practice dills to familiarise students/staff and review our processes to ensure we are continuing to support our communities safety. Just a reminder that through any emergency management drill/real situation we would ask that parents-carers do not contact their students via phone. If the need arises for any emergency management communication to parents-carers we will ensure a text message is sent out and/or something will appear on compass/website.
