Year 1

JLC Newsletter- Grade 1- Week 2, Term 1 

Welcome back to all our beautiful families and students! We hope you had a fantastic holiday and are ready for a wonderful term filled with learning, fun and achievement in Grade One.

This week, we have been spending time getting to know our students and revising some of the letters and sounds they learned last year in Foundation. It has been wonderful to see students building their confidence as they revisit these important skills. 

In Mathematics, we have begun our first topic, Data. Students are learning how to collect information and represent it in different ways, such as graphs and charts. We are excited to see them develop their understanding while having fun exploring real-life data.

Year 2

Year 2 Newsletter- Term 1 Week 2. 

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome all students and their families to the Year 2 learning space. The children are settling well into their Year 2 routines and expectations. The children have also enjoyed familiarising themselves with our new learning space. Mrs. Hyde and Mrs. Nye are super proud of all students and their start to the school year.  

Things you need to know about: 

Home reading: 

Next week, your child will bring home their reader. Children will check in with their teachers on a set day (below).  This check-in will occur between 8.30-8.50 am each morning. During your child’s check-in, they will read to their teacher and be given a new reader to take home for the coming week. We would like your child to read to an adult, at home each night, to become familiar with the given text. By the end of the week of reading, we hope your child has increased their ability to read fluently, with some confidence. We would appreciate it if you could sign your child’s home reading diary each day that your child reads. 

Show and Tell: 

Show and Tell will also commence next week. Your child’s show and tell will occur on the same day as their check–in. Children are encouraged to share news or items from an experience. We would prefer toys not to be brought into school and we appreciate your support around this. We understand that your child may not always have news to share.

Current learning: 

Literacy: 

The children are currently learning about Nouns and Imaginative texts. They have been enjoying the story ‘Willy the Wimp’ and completing associated work. All Year 2 children have been completing Literacy screening tests with their teacher, so we can better understand where each child is with their learning. 

Numeracy: 

The children are currently applying their Place Value knowledge to help identify 3-digit numbers. They have been identifying the greater number and ordering numbers. They have been working with MAB material to support their learning. During Daily review, children are consolidating their counting skills.
