Science

Our Science classes have had a fantastic start to the year, with students across all year levels settling in quickly and engaging enthusiastically in their learning.

Year 7 students spent their first week getting to know the science laboratory, exploring the different branches of science, and becoming familiar with key equipment and safety expectations.

Year 8 students began their Chemistry unit by investigating the differences between elements, compounds and mixtures, while Year 9 students dived into Chemistry through the history of atomic theory and an introduction to the periodic table.

For our Year 10 electives, this semester marks an exciting milestone as students have chosen to specialise in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Psychology. Our VCE students have continued the strong momentum built during Step Up, demonstrating high expectations as they move into more detailed and complex scientific concepts. We encourage all students to stay up to date with coursework, apply themselves in class, and reach out to their teachers whenever additional support is needed.

One highlight this week came from the Year 12 Psychology class, where students activated their prior knowledge by building playdough models of neurons to demonstrate how messages travel within and between nerve cells. It was a creative and hands-on way to showcase their understanding, and photos of their colourful model neurons are below.

Overall, it has been a wonderful start to the year in Science, and we look forward to sharing many more fun and interesting learning experiences throughout the term.
