Health & Physical Education

Welcome to the Health and Physical Education (HPE) Domain for 2026. This is the section where families and students can find key information relating to the learning, programs and expectations in HPE classes at Berwick College. The HPE domain is committed to supporting students to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to lead active, healthy and balanced lives, both inside and outside the classroom.
Hats in Physical Education (Years 7–9)
A reminder that hats are required for all students in Years 7–9 when participating in outdoor PE classes. These can be a hat of any kind, but they must be worn during lessons. Teachers will issue a uniform infringement to students who attend class without a hat. This is an important sun-safe practice and helps us ensure students can participate comfortably and safely in all activities.
Year 12 Outdoor and Environmental Studies (OES) – Wilsons Promontory Camp
Our Year 12 OES students recently completed a two-day camp at Wilsons Promontory. Activities included surfing, hiking to the summit of Mt Oberon, and hands-on conservation work around Tidal River. Students took part in the removal of the invasive plant sea spurge, learning how this species impacts coastal ecosystems and contributes to the loss of habitat for native wildlife.
They also explored the importance of protecting the nesting areas of the Hooded Plover, a threatened shorebird species found at Tidal River.
Experiences like these are a core part of Outdoor and Environmental Studies, as they allow students to connect real-world environments with the theoretical concepts studied in class, deepening their understanding of sustainability.
Correct Resources in Health (Years 7–8)
It is very important that students come prepared to their Year 7–8 Health classes with the correct resources. This includes their device and their Health workbook. Having the right materials ensures students can fully engage in all activities, participate in discussions, and make the most of their learning time.
PE Uniform Expectations
Students are reminded to wear their full Berwick College Physical Education uniform on days when they have PE classes. Being in the correct uniform allows students to participate safely and comfortably in all practical activities.
We look forward to an exciting and active year ahead in the HPE domain and thank families for their continued support.
