Principal Report

Our Vision: To develop people of purpose, character and capacity whose contributions strengthen communities.

It has been a wonderful start to the 2026 school year.

On Friday, 13 February, the teaching staff had the privilege of working with an outstanding educator, Glen Pearsall. Glen is a leader in the field and particularly skilled at working with teachers to build practical strategies in delivering curriculum and understanding exactly where each student's learning is at.  Our focus today was on formative assessment, specific instructional strategies that allow teachers to provide meaningful and immediate feedback to students.

His ability to motivate has ensured that the teaching staff have a renewed excitement to be the best teachers they can be.

Information Nights

A key action in our school improvement journey at Berwick College is to communicate more effectively to our community the work we do. The introduction of parent information nights for all year levels is a vital step in ensuring that the messages we are delivering at school, in classrooms, are being supported at home. To every family member who came out to our parent information nights, I say thank you. We hope you found the time useful and we are really grateful for the high uptake by our parents.

It was great to meet new Year 7 families at the year 7 information night and the families of year 8 and 9 students this past week. I am looking forward to engaging with year 10, 11 and 12 families next week.

NAPLAN

NAPLAN testing for years 7 and 9 students commences in March. NAPLAN results for individuals provide valuable information to teachers around literacy and numeracy skills. This diagnostic role of the test supports our ability to specifically target key areas for learning growth. At a school level the NAPLAN tests enable broad based curriculum review and targeted assessment.

Further information will be provided to families around the NAPLAN schedule and required equipment.

School Council

The Berwick College school council plays a vital role in the governance of the school. Schools are dependent on community members committing their expertise in areas such as finance, accounting, policy, risk and environment. In the coming weeks nominations for parent members of school council will open. I strongly consider all parents to consider nominating for this vital role in school governance nay quest please contact me via berwick.sc@education.vic.gov.au
