Year 5/6 News

It has been wonderful to see the students return so positively and settle back into classroom routines with confidence and enthusiasm.
This week in Mathematics, our focus is on understanding how the place value system extends to decimals and integers. Students are learning to understand the role of decimals and integers, make models to represent decimal numbers, locate and compare numbers using number lines, and apply their understanding in real-world contexts such as money, measurement, and temperature. They are also developing their problem-solving skills involving decimals and integers.
In addition, students now have an individual times table focus and are encouraged to practise regularly at home through short, frequent practice, online games or apps, saying tables aloud, writing them, and applying times tables in everyday situations. Thank you for your continued support as we look forward to a productive and successful term of learning.
Nightly Reading & Spelling Homework
Reminder that students are expected to read at home at least four nights a week. Each reading session should be recorded in the reading log and signed by a parent or guardian. Students may choose books from school to take home or read books they already have at home. Reading logs will be collected and reviewed, with each class implementing a reward system to encourage consistent nightly reading.
