Principal's Message

Good morning, Parents/Carers,

Welcome back BBQ

We are looking forward to welcoming back all of our families. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the date for our Welcome Back BBQ and Information Evening has now changed to Wednesday, 18th February 2026.  We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.    Come along and enjoy a sausage sandwich on us and meet your child's classroom teacher for 2026.  The evening will commence at 5:00pm.

Annual Swimming Carnival & Quirindi Zone Swimming Carnival

Our Annual Swimming Carnival was held last Thursday, 5th February.  Thank you to all of our Parents/Carers and community who came to cheer on our students as they competed for a spot on the Zone team to represent Werris Creek Public School. Congratulations to our newly elected Sports Captains who encouraged their houses to cheer on their teammates.  Thank you to Mr Wilcox once again for coordinating a well-run event.  Also, a big thank you to Trudy Tiplady, for your kind donation of Zooper Doopers for all students at the carnival.  Those students who have made it through to the next level of competition will be advised and receive a permission note to compete at the Quirindi Zone Swimming Carnival on Tuesday, 25th February at the new Quirindi Aquatic Centre.  (Back up date Wednesday, 26th February).

Opportunity Class Yr 5 and Selective High School Applications 

Time is running out to apply for an Opportunity Class or Selective High School in 2027.  Applications are now open and will close on Friday, 20th February.  For more information, please go to the Education Department's Website: education.nsw.gov.au

Selection testing will be held on Friday, 1st May.

Media Permissions

At the beginning of each year, we send out a Permissions note that covers such permissions for Media (Social and News Coverage) & Walking Excursions.  It is a requirement we have this note signed and returned to ensure that your wishes are respected and acknowledged.  This year's note was sent home last week and to date we still have a number that have not been returned.  If you have not returned this note, could you please do so as soon as possible.  If you require a note, please contact the school office.

Turn Up Awards

We will again be running the Turn Up Awards this year.  The "Turn Up" award was introduced last year to encourage our students to attend school every day.  Each day your child attends their name will be entered into the draw to receive a paddle pop voucher.  A voucher will be issued each week to each class.  If your child attends 5 times in that week they have 5 entries.  If they attend two days in that week they have 2 entries.  Congratulations to our winners for Week 1:

Colour Run

We will be holding a Colour Run on Friday, 13th March.  Information to register was sent home last week. Fundraising is now open and will conclude on the day of the Colour Run. It is great to see that some students have already registered.  This event is always a success and a lot of fun. We look forward to holding it again this year.

P&C Annual General Meeting

The P&C AGM was postponed and will now be held on Monday, 16th February at the Werris Creek Sports Club at 5:30pm. All positions will be declared vacant. All welcome and encouraged to attend.  Joining your school P&C is a great way to contribute to the school community and raise funds to assist our students in providing support for excursions and extracurricular activities.

School Canteen - "The Snack Shack"

Our school canteen is currently closed as we require volunteers to run the canteen.  If you would like to assist in our school canteen or know of anyone in the community who would like to help out, please contact Jim Galbraith on 0452 245 899 or call the school office on 6768 7065.

White Cross Dental

White Cross Dental will again be visiting our school next Wednesday, 18th February. This is a great initiative in ensuring our children receive preventative treatment, early detection and information on oral hygiene. Forms to participate in this program were sent home last week.  Please ensure forms are returned to our office by Tuesday, 17th February.
