Year 8 News

Happy end of term, Year 8!

What an excellent term we’ve had and my, time flies when you’re having fun. It feels like yesterday that I was writing the end of term 2 newsletter article! One more term until Year 9!

And what a term we’ve had. This term, Year 8 embarked on a number of exciting activities and adventures, all in the name of learning – and fun! It was an absolute pleasure to accompany our Year 8 girls to Gala Day at Cabramatta High School. We had two Volleyball teams compete against other schools in the district. In an outstanding result, our girls took out first and third place! I was so proud of our girls, not only for their amazing athleticism (Nevaeh Faasootauloa’s serve is phenomenal!) but also for the sportsWOMANship on display. Our girls cheered and supported the other teams competing and several teachers from other schools commented on the outstanding behaviour of our students. What a great day.

The Haka Warriors program and performances were another highlight of this term. Such a powerful display of culture and community. Our Year 8 Pacific Island students were involved in an intensive program designed to promote positive behaviour and emotional change. I have seen the performance twice now, and each time I was blown away by the passion and pride of our students. A fantastic initiative and one I hope will continue next year.

Other programs term included Wellness with Bec, Souths Cares, Shining Stars Dance and Music workshops, R U Okay Day, Wear It Purple Day, and of course, Multicultural Day!

I’m looking forward to another fantastic term after the holidays. Please remember that phones are banned in all public schools from next term. Students, please make sure that you are bringing and using your Yondr pouches next term.

Have a happy and safe holiday, JBHS!
